@23472347Jmb congrats! Welcome to the pregnant club 🤰😂

2 things make sure your on folic acid and vitamins and give your doctor a ring to see how you get referred to the midwife as everywhere is different, and most important try to relax as much as possible and enjoy the first few weeks 😁 xx

@23472347Jmb congrats! I'm almost 23 weeks now and it's my first too- very exciting but also scary. They say your life completely changes, but for the better of course 😊 good luck!x

Thanks everyone :) how early did you all find out? I'm only like 4 weeks 6 days! So still feels unreal and scary at same time. I've self referred my self to the midwife as phoned doctors and they told me to do this way. Was wondering what are the next steps? Does anyone feel like they want to be sick but can't. Xx

Jennamarie2019 · 08/04/2019 08:51

I'm taking some.pregnancy multivitamins which have folic acid in already do I need to take folic acid besides that aswell? Xx

PhoebeBear · 08/04/2019 09:03

@Jennamarie2019 you seem to be up to date with everything. If your multivitamins have folic acid in then I don't think there's need for more folic acid by itself. I just took the Superdrug folic acid then at my first scan I got a free pack of the pregnacare vitamins, after that I bought more packs.
You'll see the doctor to confirm the pregnancy next. I was 2-3 and got a faint like on a first response test when I found out- at doctors they tested using litmus paper (load of crap) came back negative and I balled my eyes out. Went home and took a clearblue test.. 2-3 weeks pregnant! If you're quite early on like you are it may not come up positive at the doctors but you can request a blood test which is better to confirm.
Then you'll have a midwife appointment next (can't remeber how long after, I think 3 weeks) it's quite boring just a lot of paper work and home visit for me, they also ask personal stuff like home life and abuse questions.
Then you'll be giving a date for your first scan! Very exciting and nervous 😬 when I saw my little baby kicking away and the heartbeat I just cried so much! You'll have a blood test there and they'll do a search for Down syndrome. You'll also get a file which has paper work in to keep handy.
Fastforward to your 20 week scan and they'll start to measure baby and tell you the sex if they can see it.
Today I've got my next appointment with my MW where they will start to measure my bump and that's how much I can tell you so far haha
Obviously depending on hospitals and stuff not everything may be the same to everyone but that's the order I have been going in so far. Now I can't wait for little one to arrive! Yay!

PhoebeBear · 08/04/2019 09:04

@Jennamarie2019 oh and I found out at 3 weeks! Me and partner had only tried the once since I came off the pill, had what I thought was a period (little did I know I was already pregnant) they'll let you know how far you are at the 12 week scan. I thought to be around 10 weeks but I was indeed 11+5!

Jennamarie2019 · 08/04/2019 09:09

I phoned my doctors and they told.me I don't need to go the doctors so that put me uneasy. But then I did 4 pregnancy tests 3 just normal one and one clear blue which came up at 1-2 weeks since conception xx

PhoebeBear · 08/04/2019 09:14

@Jennamarie2019 did the doctors tell you to book in for a appointment with the midwife now. Mine were funny and requested I came back in 2 weeks to confirm before ringing midwife xx

Jennamarie2019 · 08/04/2019 09:32

Yeah the receptionist said " u don't normally need to come to the doctors when just found out your pregnant you need to ring the midwifes yourself then she asked me if I wanted Bradford hospital and I said no wanted to go to Halifax so she said I had to go on website and refer my self xx

PhoebeBear · 08/04/2019 09:44

@Jennamarie2019 ahhh okay. Ah well that's good 😊xx

HJWT · 08/04/2019 11:14

Yeah its all very different now I didn't see my GP this time were as with my first I did, I self referred and saw the midwife at 9 weeks then she gave me the number to book my scan but some areas send you and appointment in the post for your scan xx

Jennamarie2019 · 08/04/2019 11:39

It's so strange lol. Like I've sent my referral online so I presume I'll get a letter this week maybe with booking appointment to take place in next few weeks would anyone recommend a early scan? Xx

Jennamarie2019 · 08/04/2019 13:20

Got a letter and it's for 2nd may seems ages away and that isn't the scan lol 😂
