I would phone your midwife unit and ask them.

I will say when I dipped my own (history of UTI's and kidney problems) it came up that I had loads showing. The digital one at the hospital was clear.

Call your midwife this morning x

This is likely due to kidney function, as protein in urine is most usually linked to Protein leaking from the kidneys. Do call your midwife but in the meantime go to your GP and request bloods (ESR and CRP in particular). Drink lots of water while you are waiting for this. In some people, a certain amount of protein leakage is normal during pregnancy during the increased volume of blood in the body, but if you’ve have PE previously, I would investigate this urgently. And just to clarify: the increased blood volume can also contribute to increased blood pressure - a basically the main trigger/pre warning for PE. So that’s why I say that your kidneys MAY be symptomatic of increased blood volume/pressure. Do you have a home blood pressure monitor? This would be useful to know and keep and eye on (you can pick one up from your local pharmacy for about £20). X

Was it a midstream sample? As in start weeing, catch the middle and finish weeing? Vaginal discharge can contaminate the sample and affect the results otherwise. Any symptoms of high blood pressure?
