How common is it to have pink/brown spotting at 10 weeks? Panicking after miscarriages :(

Hi, I am 10+4 and found browny-pink spotting when I wiped this morning and again just now :( I have previously lost three pregnancies, all before 9 weeks so I am very anxious. We had a scan at 9+2 and saw a strong heartbeat but I'm really worried that I might be losing this baby :( can anyone offer any advice or reassurance? (Or the opposite!)

Do you think I should go for a scan?

It can happen but you should contact your midwife and get advise x

Sooverthemill · 06/04/2019 14:46

Can you call your hospital and speak to a midwife or out of hours GP? I had a miscarriage and in my second pregnancy had many incidents of spotting and worse bleeding and but baby was okay and born a month early. For various pregnancy related reasons I did have a long period in hospital but baby was okay. I do know how terrifying it is though and think you need medical reassurance if possible. I'm sure the hospital will be supportive. Good luck

I think you should contact epau.

I experienced the same at 11 weeks, unfortunately it wasn’t good news for me after seeing a healthy baby with hb at 7 weeks, but on the thread I posted here at the time there was a mixture of positive and negative outcomes. There’s not a yes/no answer. A lot of people said that brown blood and no cramping was a good sign but in my case it wasn’t.

One thing I will say is that they probably won’t scan you until Monday so if you can’t wait it might be worth having one done privately, if only to put your mind at rest.

Unfortunately there is nothing I can do for a couple of days. I've literally just boarded a long-haul flight and will arrive home tomorrow morning. In my home country (I'm British but live abroad) I don't think I can get a scan until Monday. It's just so difficult not to worry, I'm sitting on the plane now wanting to go to the loo every five mins to check my knickers :(

I have paid for wifi on the plane so I can keep an eye on this thread! I was thinking of having a scan on Monday if possible. Just been to the toilet again and there is no spotting at the moment. If it was literally just a few spots and it doesn't recur, do you think it's worth having a scan or not? I would need to take a morning off work which I don't really want to do if possible, but obviously am very anxious not to risk the pregnancy.

Thank you.

It’s your choice if to have a scan or not - it won’t be long until your 12 week NT scan, but if it was me I would pay for one myself, otherwise I would drive myself insane wondering what’s going on, knicker checking like you said, analysing symptoms and twinges etc.

🤞🏻 Everything turns out ok

hopeandgrace2019 · 06/04/2019 17:16

I had the same spotting at 8 weeks and it lasted for around 10 days had a scan a baby was fine so although easier said than done try not to worry Flowers

stripes416 · 06/04/2019 17:22

I had brown spotting with my first pregnancy. I was 6 weeks and I googled and saw a mixture of stories, some bad and some good. I rang the hospital and they got me in for a scan that day and everything was fine,
she had a look for what she thought could possibly have caused it but couldn't find anything and it didn't happen again, she said sometimes these things happen with no explanation. Definitely get a scan booked as soon as you can, hope everything is okay!

Teddybear45 · 06/04/2019 17:22

Where are you going? You could get a private scan there.

supadupapupascupa · 06/04/2019 17:33

I had spotting around then and have a gorgeous dd, try not to panic xx

Secretlifeofme · 06/04/2019 19:24

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments :) I have been to the toilet multiple times (!) and now haven't had any spotting for about 6 hours. It was a really tiny bit so I'm going to try and relax now and get some sleep on the flight. I'll probably go for a scan on Monday though, just in case x

Update - the bleeding increased slightly this morning and became more red in colour, so I went for an emergency scan and everything is fine! In fact the baby is measuring big for dates, at around 11+1. The doctor said the bleeding is coming from my cervix, which has become irritated somehow. So relieved! Smile

Great news!

leafy22 · 07/04/2019 08:20

What a relief!! Xoxo

AmethystRaven · 07/04/2019 08:28

Oh fab news. I was going to say I had a little bleed and everything was fine. My mum apparently had bleeding all through with my brother and he was perfectly OK too so it's not always bad news Flowers

Secretlifeofme · 07/04/2019 08:32

Thank you so much, it is a great relief! DH has been telling me off for worrying too much about the bleeding. I'm not sure men can always understand what it's like when you see that blood on the tissue and your heart just sinks.

HalfBloodPrincess · 07/04/2019 08:45

Oh that’s brilliant news!

Sooverthemill · 07/04/2019 10:55

Men can't understand no matter how amazing they are. It's a real heartsink moment. I'm so pleased all is well.
