Painful right shoulder

Hello, I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been getting a really sharp pain in my right shoulder blade. Pain increases at night and is waking me up. I have no other Symptoms, no bleeding or pain or nausea. My breasts are tender so might be sleeping funny as I sleep on my side. Should I be worried?

I would get checked out - can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy. In my area you can't self-refer to the EPAU so had to go via my Dr (who got me seen very quickly after a bleed).

Hope all is OK x

Shoulder blade? At the back?

It could be musculoskeletal pain from a combination of sleeping in one position too much and the relaxing effects of pregnancy hormones on ligaments and cartilage.

I’d advise having a chat with your MW about it though as certain types of shoulder pain can be signs of ectopic pregnancy (shoulder tip pain rather than shoulder blades).

I agree with ryanreynolds its the best advice.i was in pain as i thought i was having a ectopic a few weeks ago, i went to my gp then they put me to a early pregnacy unit they give u a scan.its better to get it checked ,hope all goes well xx

I'd be heading straight to a and e. Shoulder tip pain is occasionally a sign of internal bleeding from an ectopic pregnancy - which is a medical emergency.

Call 111. Get yourself to a and e.

Thanks all, I will see what happens tonight when I sleep and if there is no improvement I will call 111. I had it a few weeks ago before I found out I was pregnant and it went in a couple of days

And yes pain is the blade at the back.. so when I twist it causes me pain, to every time I turn over at night it wakes me up. I can’t feel it standing or sitting up x
