Aspiring and Cyclogest

Hi I've had 2 recurrent miscarriages, both at week 8 and the doctor said that with my next pregnancy he will prescribe me aspirin and cyclogest. I just wanted to ask those that have taken these, how early are you supposed to start taking them (from what week)? I will be trying for a baby very soon, but obviously by the time I will find out I am pregnant it will already be week 4...and then going to the midwife to register the pregnancy etc will take a few days thereafter.

I'm just worried about starting the medication too late.

I started taking both of these at 6 weeks, currently 15 weeks. Have been told to take aspirin throughout my pregnancy and cyclogest until 24 weeks

I started aspirin at 5 weeks when I got my bfp, but didn't start Cyclogest until 7 weeks as I found out just before Christmas/New Year and couldn't get a drs appointment to get a prescription until then. Currently 20 weeks and all looking ok.

Thank you! Did the doctors prescribe you aspirin when you went to register the pregnant with the midwife (I.e the first ever appointment you have)? Or did you have to book another appointment specifically with the doctor to get them to prescribe it to you?

The doctor that recommended it to me was the surgeon that carried out my surgical management surgery for my previous miscarriage and he isn’t my normal doctor. He wrote a note on my discharge letter that for my next pregnany I should take these.... and should contact his secretary when I am pregnant, who will then write a prescription and send it to my GP...just hope it doesn’t take too long or get lost

@AR23 mine was prescribed by a private gynaecologist. When I've asked my GP questions about Cyclogest side effects she said she couldn't help me with that, but hopefully your GP will be more helpful!

I started the aspirin before trying for a baby, I had had numerous MCs and my consultant suggested trying it. You can buy low dose aspirin in most pharmacies, in boots it's about 80p for 100! Cyclogest I started at 5 weeks as soon as I'd had my BFP. Ask the GP to write the prescription ready for you collect when you need it?

Thank you for the info, I will try asking for it in advance so that it’s ready and I can take it as soon as I am pregnant. Did you have silent miscarriages (baby’s heart stopped beating and you weren’t aware)? That’s what happened to myself. Not quite sure what aspirin and cyclogest are for, but from what I’ve read, it’s helped women who have had multiple miscarriages with a successful pregnancy. Good luck to you Smile

Hi, I am on these for recurring cp. I got the script from a private gynaecologist and left it with my GP. Started taking aspirin right away and then once I got BFP I rang the GP and asked him to prescribe the rest. So started taking them around 3+5 (VERY early BFP). Lovely to hear of all the ongoing pregnancies above! Gives me so much hope. Fingers crossed it all works out for you too Thanks
