Shooting pain in lady parts...

Yesterday (5+2) I started to get a shooting pain that felt like it was almost right up deep inside my vagina. It feels very different to lower tummy pain and the sensation is definitely coming from up there.
Sorry if this makes anyone feel wobbly but it feels a bit like someone poking a pencil or a needle up there and jabbing around. It’s not all over - more specifically to my left side.

Of course had a google but found confusing results. Lots of women report it much later on in pregnancy as a type of round ligament pain or things stretching. For 5+2 I don’t think I would be stretching that much. Another couple of people reported it when their cervix was dilating - one unfortunately miscarried and the other went into pre-term labour.

This is my 3rd pregnancy after 2 miscarriages so I’m praying with all I have that this one goes the distance. Don’t feel like I can see a Dr because unless there’s any bleeding they typically won’t be interested. Plus I’m too early to see anything on a scan so I know it’ll just be a waiting game.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever had it, in your opinion does it sound normal or abnormal etc

I know you’re not Drs but just curious and trying to remain calm, I think hearing people’s views might help me decide what to do next (if anything)

Search for "fanny daggers" and I'm sure you'll find plenty on the subject! I seem to remember suffering in the first trimestre too.

Ells0204 · 05/04/2019 10:51

Oh lord @CatSmize I have just googled Fanny Daggers and I have found my people.
Looks like a lot of people have had them on and off as early as 5 weeks as well so I suppose it could be normal!

Glad you're feeling reassured! I'm sure it's perfectly normal. I had all sorts of period type cramps, shooting pains and fanny daggers at that stage and, like you, I also worried what it meant but here I am at 15w5 and it's all going swimmingly!

Congratulations btw!

@CatSmize Oh wow congratulations to you too! That honestly seems like a lifetime away for me, time is going so slow! I really hope this one works out for me!

the fanny daggers are real.

currently 27+3 and the fanny daggers are still ongoing.

esp when you get a kick that sends what feels like a bolt of lightening to your vaj. fun times hahaha

MrTumbleTumble · 05/04/2019 11:56

I'm 15 months PP and I still get fanny daggers. Hope yours don't last that long!

tessiegirl · 05/04/2019 11:56

This is absolutely real!!! I remember them well!Grin

CheesePuffTheMagicDragon · 05/04/2019 11:57

Bless you, I know how you feel, I had horrible pains throughout early pregnancy and was always terrified it was something bad happening. I'm now 34 weeks and baby is still going strong, so it's not always bad news Thanks fingers crossed for you, it's so tough not knowing x

Teddybear45 · 05/04/2019 15:30

I’m around the same as you. Getting them in the arse too.

Raspberry88 · 05/04/2019 15:43

Yeah, I remember them well. Bloody awful. An aside though, wouldn't Fanny Daggers make the most wonderful heroine in a schlocky detective novel or something. I can't write but if there's anyone out there who does...

Pinkywoo · 05/04/2019 15:53

I've not had fanny daggers yet (11+1) but have been getting javelin arse!

singymummy · 05/04/2019 15:58

Omg I did not know "fanny daggers" was the name for this.
Brilliant!

This thread has had me nearly wetting myself

ALannisterInDebt · 06/04/2019 22:22

Yep...fanny daggers is a term I heard on MN! I was so glad I wasn't alone, and I now have a wonderful new name 'lightening crotch'! Thanks MN.
