My history: I’ve suffered recurrent miscarriages, had the standard tests offered on the NHS and nothing untoward has been found. Totally unexplained. The consultant told to me crack on again ‘you have no time to waste at 35 my dear’ (word for word)!
I was instructed to call as soon as I next positive pregnancy test to get progesterone prescribed.
BFP happened last week, so in I went (also been prescribed high dose folic acid).
My bloods were taken at 4&2 to check hcg and progesterone, and 48 hours later to check levels.
Progesterone levels were found to be 112ng/ml and I hadn’t started taking my supplements yet! The average should be under 50ng/ml for this stage of pregnancy.
Thankfully hcg increased by 60% in the 48 hours. They didn’t give me a second progesterone reading.
I asked the midwife at EPAU whether I ought to take the extra supplements as it was reading so high, she shrugged her shoulders and said it can’t do any harm. So I’ve been taking them for the last week (200ng twice a day) as prescribed - but wondering whether I am damaging my pregnancy.
Does ANYONE know the effects of too much progesterone during early pregnancy? I’ve searched Dr Google, but haven’t found anything conclusive!
For extra info, I had a scan today at 5+2 only yolk sac found so far in uterus and I’m due for another scan in another week!
