Worried & confused after early scan

I MC late Feb and got a BFP late March (2 weeks ago), no period between, so not 100% sure when I ovulated etc.

Had a little spotting on wiping a couple of days after first BFP (11 days ago) so was referred to EPAU. I had 3x blood tests 48 hours apart, doubling every 1.5 days.

3rd HCG was 2500 so went for early ultrasound yesterday. There was a sac in my uterus, nothing else to see yet.

The US tech said that he would expect that for around 5 weeks, so it's either that just still too early, or stopped developing. He also said he can't rule out ectopic pregnancy at this point, so I ask why even though the sac is in my uterus. He said because my HCG is going up?

So I'm confused about the ecoptic stuff. And I'm also worried about my little sac.

Anyone been through this or have any advice? My next scan is in 13 days, and it's already so hurtful just not knowing.

Sorry it’s such a stressful time of uncertainty, the only thing I can say is...

I had bleeding and an early scan at 5 weeks and they said exactly the same. They didn’t do my hcg but could see the sac and couldn’t rule out ectopic.

At the next scan it showed a heartbeat and a haematoloma which was what caused the bleeding

A year later I have a happy healthy baby!

So although nothing is confirmed please keep this in mind x

Sorry when I say a year later I mean I now have a one year old from that pregnancy!

Not sure how relevant but I also had a previous MC 6 months before I became pregnant again

Thank you so much for replying.

I think just hearing that someone else has been told the same thing in a similar circumstance and it worked out well gives me a little hope things might be okay

Early scans are sometimes called 'reassurance' scans. They are often anything but reassuring. Hugs. Time will tell. And the sonographer sounds like they shouldn't have said anything that is so inconclusive like 'might be ectopic'. Sounds unlikely to me with the rapid rate of hcg doubling - surely if they saw a sac they could tell if it was in your uterus ffs?

Hi Op
I'm currently going through the same thing (kind of)

I have PCOS so long irregular cycles got a faint BFP on 25th feb, had an early scan and empty uterus, a few more scans a week apart each time and I now have a gestational sac with nothing else, sac has grown from 6.6mm on 26th march to 7.2mm on 2nd April.

Hcg was doubling but at last check on the 2nd hadn't risen "significantly"

Keep being told it's likely a blighted ovum and to expect to miscarry. I feel completely numb and I don't know what to expect. At my last appointment the consultant was pushing for surgical management but I just don't want to give up hope yet even though the outcome seems inevitable.

Having a rescan on Monday and hope for something to have changed one way or another.

Early scans are horrific, and the waiting feels endless.

Just wanted to handhold and say you're not alone. 🌸

I got pregnant after my miscarriage in January without a period in between. Going by the dates of the miscarriage I should be about 12 weeks now. Went for a scan a couple of weeks and saw a gestational sac measuring 4-5 weeks and nothing else. Going by the dates of the miscarriage I could have been up to about 10 weeks. Had a rescan done yesterday and my baby was there with a heart beat measuring over 7 weeks. It looks like I just took a good little while to ovulate.

The waiting is really, really hard but hang in there. I hope it's good news for you!

ApricotExpat · 04/04/2019 13:07

I had the same thing - a week later there was a baby with a heartbeat. Fingers crossed for you.

hf18 · 05/04/2019 16:12

It really wasn't reassuring :(

I was surprised that the US tech commented on it, because I had to wait to see the Dr after and she just said about it being either too early or a stopped development. The US tech definately said the sac was in my uterus though Confused

Thanks so much for the hugs, much needed - it definately feels like time is crawling rn.

Hi TickTockBaby,
Thanks so much for your message, it's comforting to know others are in a similar situation (even though I wouldn't wish it on anyone).

I'll be thinking of you on Monday

@hf18 the same happened to me but i was 4+3 (now been put forward a week) i had another scan at 5+3 (measuring 6) and there was a baby 😁 a LOT can change in a week with pregnancy try not to worry to much, a sac is always a good sign!

hf18 · 05/04/2019 16:18

Hi Bambamber & ApricotExpat

Ahhh it gives me a little flicker of hope just hearing that it's happened to others and been ok.

The waiting is so hard, but reading this has helped me to hold on.

My symptoms are there still, so as rough as I feel - I'm happy about it and hoping it's all a good sign 💖

@HJWT (I was trying to figure out how to tag posters - dur! I didn't think of the @ 😋 )

Thank you so so much for your message.
I've never been in this situation, it's just been MC (I've had 2 back to back) before HCG got high enough to scan - so I've really been thinking the worst and doubting the increase in nausea and the exhaustion and sore nipples (sorry if tmi)..

It makes my heart a little lighter knowing that other little jellybeans have been ok after early problems/worries.

💖🤞🏻

@hf18 yeah I had another bleed at 8 weeks and was certain the baby had stopped growing but NOPE! 12 weeks on Monday! I am sure you will be fine if your HCG is rising you sound very similar to me 8 weeks ago 🥰💐

hf18 · 05/04/2019 16:53

@HJWT

Well that comment wasn't meant for this thread, sorry OP! No idea what happened there. But do hope all works out for you Flowers

PhalangeReginaPhalange · 06/04/2019 01:35

It’s a great sign your symptoms are still there, sorry if you feel poorly though! Also don’t worry if they do come and go it’s ok to feel ok too... it’s a very confusing time really! Just keep yourself as busy as you can the next week and hopefully good news round the corner
