Family are going to Mexico when my dd will be 13 weeks old. Hard to find any specific information online and was wondering if anyone had been with a young baby and had any advice info where I can get advice about vaccines ect? Thanks

NHS do travel advice
I suspect you will be unable to get vaccinations beyond the scheduled 8 and 12 week ones.

Thank you I have looked on the NHS pages and there is some info on there. Just wondering if anyone had been also and how was it with a baby? :) thanks

I love Mexico and have been with toddlers and upwards. I really wouldn’t go with a baby that age though.

Apart from any health issues, Mexico is hot and humid most of the year. What would you do with your baby while on holiday? You’d be able to take the baby in the pool for very short periods. Then it would be too hot to hang around by the pool or beach. So you’d end up stuck in your room.

Based on my experience, I can’t see how this would make for an enjoyable holiday for you or the baby.

@NewIdeasToday that was what I was thinking to he honest nice idea but I think it's a big no no on several issues. Thanks for your input x

They do have babies in Mexico. The only thing I would worry about op is finding out the correct vaccination info (I don't know what you need for Mexico) if baby can have them. I'm going abroad with my baby who will be 7 weeks old if comes on due date. Midwife said baby can have 8 week vaccinations when back if not before we go and most airlines allow babies to fly at a few days old. Personally I can't see why it'd be disastrous unless there are health risks to going, caring for a newborn is a lot easier than caring for a toddler on holiday and you'd have your family.x

Thank you @justus22 that's my concern with the baby catching anything over there! Thinking of going to Cyprus now so that would be a much better option. Thanks alot hope your trip goes well and best of luck with everything x

What time of year are you considering Cyprus? I find there to be horrendously hot in the summer - worse than anything I've experienced in Mexico.

Just as an FYI - babies can go onto an accelerated vaccination track if needed. I'm travelling to East Africa with my 5-6 week old and they will have a whole heap of vaccinations before we go. For anyone else reading we are using the vaccination schedule of the country we are going to - rather than the one of the country we currently live in. CDC is also a good source of info.

I'm actually going to Cyprus too, it is hot and will be in late June, July and August but the surrounding months are not as humid or hot. Last year in the UK we had an extremely hot summer and we are far less equipped for it here and as I said before babies are born in hot climates too. We will be keeping baby well shaded and hydrated of course, there is air conditioning everywhere too. That's great to know about immunisations @pbobs thank you. X

Thanks for that great information @PBobs.
November so should be perfect weather for the baby xx

I don't live in England so no idea what the summer was like last year. Said goodbye to English weather 7 years ago and never looked back.

Justus22 · 04/04/2019 12:32

@myla07 yes November is fairly cool so take layers, they shut the resort I go to end of October until April as season changes. @pbobs I don't blame you I consider leaving all the time to warmer climates and a country that is slower paced. X
