So embarrassed about my nipples

So I've name changed because as the name suggests this is embarrassing.
I'm almost 7 months pregnant and in the past month or so I've noticed that one of my nipples is really crusty(?). It's a kind of green colour crust and if I brush my hand over it a lot of it comes off but almost straight away there's more?
I'm washing more than normal in case it's that but it doesn't seem to be, and there's never any liquid so I don't think I'm leaking anything (first pregnancy anyway so I don't think I would be would I?).
Has anyone else had this?
I'm seeing my midwife this week, but I haven't seen her since before this happened so I'll be talking to her about this this week but hoping someone can reassure me beforehand?

Hello I get a bit of dried colostrum on my nipples sometimes, I think our nipples leak without us knowing. Definitely get it checked with the doc to make sure as its a bit green. But I would imagine it could be colostrum leaking which is normal. Best of luck 😊

I’ve had it too, not sure about it being green. But mine go dry/crusty & they do itch too. Don’t be embarrassed 😕 I’m sure it’s perfectky normal x

Thank you both! I did wonder colostrum but because of the colour wasn't sure.
I'll ask the midwife anyway tomorrow but wanted to hear if other people had experienced it or if it was a bit more of a worrying thing. Feeling more reassured now so thank you 😊

It's colostrum leakage. Colostrum can be all kinds of colours including greenish. Whether it's your first pregnancy really has nothing to do with it, nor does it say anything about how much milk you have or how you may find feeding. Some people just leak in pregnancy and some don't.

It's normal and harmless. The only reason for concern would be if you were experiencing pain and had a temperature which would indicate infection - but I'm guessing you would have mentioned that! In any case if you do have pain or a temp seek medical attention - but if not I'd be very surprised if your midwife was concerned.

Oh and I got orangey crustiness from colostrum leakage in pregnancy - never any visible liquid just the crusting. Colostrum is thick, sticky and produced in very small quantities so although some people get 'wet' patches with it, lots more just see the crust.

4dc here and yes it's normal it's another one of those pregnancy things no body tells you aboutGrin
You could always put a breast pad in your bra if you want, when I did what it caught would be a greeny yellowish colour.

Yep, totally normal 🙂 xx

OP, doesn't sound concerning but mention it to mw Smile

Spoke to the midwife and she said to just keep cleaning them whenever I get it :)
Doesn't help I work with babies so that's making it worse - especially considering one is teething and so keeps trying to get to me because they can smell it 😂
