Advice for coming off the mini pill

Hey All,

I’ve been on the mini pill since I was 15 (30 this year) and hands up I’ve fotgotten to take a few over the years and in doing so I’ve started to have a little bleed a couple of days after.

Well, two weeks ago I was poorly and just totally forgot to take my pill for a few days...then I had sex with partner.

I didn’t start the pill again as I thought I’d wait for a bleed and restart. It’s been two weeks since the last pill and still no bleed.

I’ve had what feels like period pains and myboobd have been very sensitive.

I just wondered if there was a slight chance of becoming pregnant a few days after not taking the pill or of what I’m feeling could just be a delayed withdrawal bleed?

Any advice would be so grateful so that I stop googling every night 😌

Thanks x

It certainly is possible to be pregnant yes. Is your partner aware that you haven't been taking it?

Considering that some people get pregnant taking the pill, it’s entirely possible that you are. I think i stopped taking mine on my wedding day/thereabouts. We had an 8 week old at our first anniversary, go figure!

You might bpget better advice in either the Conception or the Family Planning (contraception) topics, or Women's Health, as I think they have more posters with relevant expertise or experience

AFAIK once you have stopped taking a pill, there is a high risk of pregnancy (especially minipill, where even a short break - ie over 12 hours, shorter with some types - compromises cover).

This info is all in the pack inserts, and readily available online.

POAS approx 14 days after unprotected intercourse. If not PG, and you do not want to be in the short term, consider moving to a long-acting contraceptive, to remove risks arising from user error

Thank you.

I will wait till Thursday as that’ll be 2 weeks since we did the deed.
We will both be very pleased if I am. I think because I’ve always spotted a day or so after a missed pill and this time it hasn’t I’m like ooooo... x

@bambamber
Yes, but like he said ‘if it’s to be, it will’

Could go either way - I was the same, always had a breakthrough bleed if I missed a pill. When I came off I had to wait 4 weeks for my withdrawal bleed!

Waiting 2 weeks to test should give you a clear answer, hope it's what you want x

Thank you!
I dreamt about being pregnant last night! Yes, it would be lovely to as I’ve always thought I couldn’t because I tried years ago and nothing happened. But wasn’t the right time I guess. X
