Hello all, I'm 27 and found out Im pregnant! Never thought I could get pregnant nor did my partner so we are excited. But I suffer with terrible anxiety so Im so anxious, I was a smoker before (obviously stopped now) so im worried that I was Pregnant as smoking and if this has done damage to my fetus development? I think im getting a scan Wednesday so hopefully this will put me at ease. But im very worried and keep doing pregnancy tests to make sure shes still There. Ive had bad vomiting and dry heaving for two weeks now also, but I believe this is normal? And should I start buying baby supplies in now? Are there any vitamins I should be on? And food to avoid. Honestly any and all information will be most grateful. Ive been watching youtube alot but dont find it that helpful with certain topics. Kind regards :)

Hey congratulations!
start taking folic acid as soon as you can
Also vitamin d and vitamin c are recommended
Your supposed to start folic acid as soon as you start trying or find out your pregnant.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the smoking
You can’t help it if you didn’t know, the main thing is you stopped straight away after finding out.
People smoke, drink and take drugs in early pregnancy before they know and babies have been fine.. unfortunately some women also carry on afterwards due to addiction.
Avoid runny eggs, make sure they are cooked thoroughly aswell as any red meat.. if you liked beef medium or rare before you’ll have to make do with well cooked until baby is born!
Certain cheeses and raw meats need to be avoided too.. there’s a full list on the NHS website which is really useful. It also tells you about the vitamins etc
Nausea and heaving are normal
I’ve had tiredness/sensitive boobs and spotting too (brownish discharge which is old blood from the cervix, I’ve also had bleeding after intercourse)
Had dry flaky skin on my face and scalp too, nasal congestion and nose bleeds
There’s loads of things which are all normal
Good luck

As PP said, start taking Folic acid and Vit D ASAP. I just got myself some pregnacare, they contain those 2 and everything else you need.

Don’t worry about the smoking, there is a limited amount of damage you could have done as baby is nothing more than a lump of cells in the begininng. Just make sure you don’t smoke again now you know, or drink obviously.

Avoid runny eggs The rules on this have changed. We can have runny eggs (I certainly have been!) as long as they are British Lion stamped, which they will be in you buy them in a supermarket/chain restaurant. It’s only places that like farm shop cafes where they might not be. Best to ask if unsure.

I wouldn’t start buying things yet. You have ages and it’s fun to research all the bits you need. You’ll end up with unnecessary stuff / unnecessary amounts of things if you start buying too early. But not an idea to start saving, if your mat leave package is anything like mine then there will be a massive drop in income so it’s good to have some savings set aside.

Get yourself booked in for a midwife appt if you haven’t already done so.

Hope that helps!

Congratulations!! Exciting news I was 27 aswell when I found I was pregnant I now have a 10 month old soni took the pregnacare vitamins there are different types so you would obviously get the one for during pregnancy. It should all the extra vitamins you need throughout your pregnancy. Sometimes when Holland and Barrera have their penny sales its also good to have a look there.

As for the vomiting I vomited more or less through the whole pregnancy but hopefully that won’t be the case for you. But eating dry things like crackers or dry toast might help if you can’t keep anything down. Also keep sipping on water too you don’t want to get dehydrated.

I personally think it’s too early to buy baby supplies, but that’s a personal choice- I waited until I was about 20 weeks and then started buying things. But it wouldn’t hurt to do research on the big purchases such as prams and cots etc.

I downloaded the app BabyCentre it tells you how your baby is growing and has loads of articles on pregnancy in general, what to expect etc. I personally loved it and was reading articles all the time.

I don’t suffer with anxiety so I’m not going to pretend I know much about it. But I would just try and do whatever you can to relax and enjoy this as much as you can. Just keep doing what your doing, listen to your body and rest when you can.

I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy x

Thank you everyone, this is getting me more excited talking about it. Glad I can have eggs then haha because that has been a craving as I normally dont eat eggs. I will defo check out holland and barret forgot about them!
Im glad I havent done damage, will never touch a ciggarette again, and im not a drinker so that wont be missed. So is 20 weeks the safe mark? I havent announced my pregnancy yet as im only 6-7 weeks. Xxx

I was a smoker and found out i was pregnant when i was 4 weeks had smoked up until then and my 7 month old is absolutely fine x

Severe sickness may mean Hyperemesis. If unsure about it, speak to your GP. It's often classified as Severe nausea and vomiting, weight loss, and possibly dehydration. If this is the case, the earlier you can get help with it, the easier the pregnancy should be in terms of how you feel with the sickness.

Most people class 12 weeks as the safe Mark, but it's entirely up to you when you tell people. Some people wait til 20 weeks when the 2nd scan has happened.

The only foods you need to avoid are shark and marlin and blue cheeses and soft cheeses like brie (unless cooked. Still avoid blue cheeses though).

Congratulations!

Fsult1 · 31/03/2019 21:30

They usually say once you’ve hit 12 weeks that’s the safe mark. I announced after my first scan which is around that time.

Dolly415 · 31/03/2019 22:09

I think after my scan and 12 week mark I will announce it, or wait til I show. I have bit of a pot now bit think its just bloat. My sickness has died down its mainly dry heaving, but this morning i was mid chat then vomit just shot out of me! Was like something from the exorcist haha xxx

Congratulations!
Yes you can have lion code eggs runny as pps have said.
I've just gone 21 weeks and we have only really just started buying things, but I definitely second starting saving now! And maybe starting to do a bit of research on what you may like to buy, as I've found had to do quite a lot of researching and comparing things as there's so much you COULD get, but actually you won't need all Of it. You may get given things too.

Nausea is meant to be a good sign. And it's pretty normal in the first trimester.

Check out the other pregnancy threads, there are lots of ones for due dates so there may be one for December (assuming that's when you're due if you're about 6 weeks) and you can chat to people at the same stage of pregnancy.

Dolly415 · 31/03/2019 23:03
