TMI: Sharp pain in bum?

Hi all,

I’m really embarrassed so I’ve name changed. I’m 38 weeks pregnant and like a lot of pregnant ladies I’m constipated (probably around the 5 day mark) but with the bump now it feels like much longer. I’ve been using movicol and laculose the last few days and the blockage is still there. (I’ve tried every fibre food & loads of water etc) I have some suppositories I’ll use however, at the moment I’ve got the most uncomfortable and sharpest pain in my bum! It’s making me worried about using the suppositories at all?
I’m in the bath as it’s helping with the pain.

I’ve made the mistake of googling this and it’s came up with all sorts piles (kinda thinking that) anal tears and that labour could be starting?! My DH is on a stag do so I’m alone and in a lot of pain and becoming worried.

My DH is only an hour away but I don’t want to be bothering him with this unless I’m actually in labour! Also not sure what he could do apart from giving me some sympathy anyway think it’s the fact I’m alone Sad

Has anyone else suffered from this? It feels like somebody is stabbing me down there Blush & I’m feeling pretty upset at the moment. Any help would be great.

Constipation can cause this. I would ring your maternity unit and talk to someone, ask them about taking the suppository.

I've not suffered with this, but have read many posts on MN where posters refer to having 'Javelin Arse' while pregnant! Just wanted to reassure you that you're not alone.

NicoAndTheNiners · 30/03/2019 19:01

I do hope it resolves soon btw. 5 days without a poo would be pretty uncomfortable for anyone, never mind being pregnant. Have you got a friend who can come and spend the evening with you?

I get javelin arse when I'm not pregnant. From what I've read that's a muscle spasm which I think affects a nerve. Comes out of nowhere and can make me scream but passes just as suddenly and isn't related to constipation. But if you have nerves in that area I would imagine constipation could but pressure on the nerve?

Constipation I think

Yes, javelin arse. You don't have to be pregnant to get it. There is lots on here about it. A new thread is started about it every couple of weeks. Sorry, I can't link, try an advanced search. Hope you feel better soon.

This was how my pelvic girdle pain/SPD started. If I rested it improved the next day

Thanks everyone, I’ve never heard of it before very relieved it’s something other than labour at the moment. I have zero energy, I’ve found that thread - thank you.

I do have friends local who could pop over I’m still in the bath tbh I don’t really want to get out.

Oh my god, does anybody know how long this usually lasts? I’m using a hot water bottle & apparently this horrible pain is common?!

I feel for anyone dealing with this more than once. Any tips you’ve found to soothe it?
