I'm sixteen weeks pregnant and have caught the lurg :(
I'm sniffing olbus oil (it's safe right?!!)
but still feel horrible. I know we can't take any meds, but does anyone have any tricks to feel better??
It's my birthday and i have things planned but i feel so horrible i want to cancel :(

Not sure if it's safe, I would check with a doctor.

My sister is also 16 weeks pregnant and has the flu, the doctors can give you anti-viral medication which lessens symptoms and duration.

A recent study in Australia showed elderberry lessens the severity and duration of the flu.

Reschedule the birthday and get some rest.

I wasn't sure if elderberry was safe during pregnancy? Ive read so many contradictory things.
I've read that olbas isn't safe, so I've nixed that.
Might go find some saline spray!

I’m suffering too. Was up all night with headache/earache/sinus pain. Even toothache fgs! I’ve been doing plain steam inhalation’s every couple of hours or so during the day and saline nose spray after each inhalation. Paracetamol does nothing for me. It’s miserable. I hope I get a better night tonight!

Have had a nasty cold for almost 3 weeks - it almost goes then comes back again. I’ve been using paracetamol for the headaches (not that it’s helping much), beconase steroid nasal spray (didnt do a lot so stopped), got a Sterimar sinus wash which I’ve not resorted to yet but have if needed, als been sniffing lobas oil off a tissue and used Vicks Vaporub when particularly congested. Oh, and drinking lots of hot Winter Spice Ribena pretending it’s Lemsips!!

9 weeks here and suffering too! I only normally take medication when a cold goes to my sinuses (it almost always does). Went to the pharmacy today and she said no menthol products now (whoops, slathered myself in vicks last night) and she reluctantly sold me Sterimar, a saline spray. She also said no to paracetomal and pretty much anything else (and had a generally rubbish attitude to my suffering which didn't help my despair, like I was stupid to be asking for help). I've used warm cloths on my sinuses which is helping a bit as I hate steaming.

Hope you don't feel rotten for too long!

@amehh, I would speak to a different pharmacist - there is absolutely no problem for pregnant women taking paracetamol (my midwife said definitely no ibuprofen or other non steroidal’s but paracetamol is fine - as is codeine if prescribed by a Dr!!) I was also told by the pharmacist where I went that Olbas Oil and Vicks were ok
