Where is the bump!?

I am 16+3 and there is no sign of a bump. I've just put on some weight due to eating more than I used to. I know everyone grows at different stages but it's making me worry it's not growing. Anyone else in the same boat?

My first pregnancy I didn't get a proper bump until over 22 weeks. Before that I just looked bloated

mcjx · 29/03/2019 20:52

I only had a bump after about 22 weeks, it's different for everybody. I wouldn't worry about it.

Is this your first baby? Usually takes a little while for a bump to appear if it is your first Smile

Middlrm · 29/03/2019 20:54

I think bloating is part of it, I have always been a big lady but I worked hard to loose weight and got a lovely cured waist before pregnant ... it disappeared and I looked like a recrtangle up to about 25 weeks then just popped ! Just looked even fatter 😂🙄 x

Bigonesmallone3 · 29/03/2019 20:56

I was 25 weeks + with my first!

TwittleBee · 29/03/2019 20:59

I had a lovely "bump" during 12 to 14 weeks but clearly it was all bloat as now at nearing 16 weeks I don't think anyone would think I'm pregnant! Pretty much flat again despite this being not my 1st pregnancy.

My first pregnancy I certainly had a bump at around 18 weeks but it wasn't an obvious non-bloat bump until about 22 weeks.

JE87 · 29/03/2019 21:08

Ok great that makes me feel better! I'm a small frame and a size 10 and thought it would have been more obvious by now! Yes it is my first baby so I know they say you tend to show later. I'm being impatient it's taking too long haha!

It's just people's different builds; I was 35 weeks and my next door neighbour couldn't believe it! DS1 proceeded to be 9lb 7oz...

Heyha · 29/03/2019 21:15

Yep same sort of build as you OP and there were still people at work who hadn't clocked on after my 20 week scan as I only had a bit of a bulge (first child too). 28 weeks now and people keep telling me my bump is neat/small but measured average at midwife so not worried. If you're like me you will be all bump though, nowhere else for everything to go 😂

b0bb1n · 29/03/2019 21:30

Took forever for my bump to show properly. I thought because I am quite small framed and was quite skinny before pregnancy that I'd get an obvious bump pretty early. But no! Even now I'm 40 weeks +2 and some people arw surprised when I tell them. I think bumps are just one of those things that can vary massively and there's no hard and fast rule.

FineFanks · 30/03/2019 02:15

OP I am 17 weeks and last week I had nothing but now I do! I notice it when I’m lying flat, where my tummy used to go flat and my hips would stick out, I now have a firm dome from my belly button to the top of my pubic area.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 30/03/2019 02:36

I have never known anyone to get a proper bump until well after 20weeks. Older or larger people often look bigger earlier, but it is just bloating.

PBobs · 30/03/2019 03:33

I'm 29+5 and went out with colleagues last night some of whom only just noticed I'm pregnant. Admittedly I wear looser vintage maternity clothes to work but I haven't been hiding it. Point being bumps are all different shapes and sizes. Friends can't believe I'm almost 30 weeks and yet there is a baby in there measuring pretty much middle of the curve for everything. I don't look big at all. I'm waiting for the explosion in a month or two.

jcq17 · 30/03/2019 03:39

I'm 24 weeks and only now am I getting a bit rounded. Can still wear all my clothes and no one would know I was pregnant unless I tell them.

scratchbass · 30/03/2019 09:17

I'm nearly 21 weeks and I just look like I've had a big meal. I was probably bigger at 7-8 weeks with bloating!

SoHotADragonRetired · 30/03/2019 09:20

Most people really just look like they ate a few too many pies until well after 20 weeks in their first pregnancy.

beforeIhit30 · 30/03/2019 12:24

The other thing with your body shape/build is also your uterus (placement of it, I think?) as well as the strength of your abdominal muscles. I’m pg with DC3, whilst I definitely get big and get a big bump later on it’s not been as big as a lot of other people I know (women of all manner of heights, body shapes, sizes etc). Nothing much to do with my size or the weight of my babies, I just carry low and a bit further back due to the way my body seems to be arranged! I entered my first pregnancy with much stronger abdominal muscles too (long behind me now Grin) which can also affect how easily you start to ‘look’ pregnant.

Buddytheelf85 · 30/03/2019 20:10

I just looked like I’d eaten loads of pasta until around 20 weeks.

NotwhereIshouldbe · 30/03/2019 20:21

Currently 17 weeks and I can still fit into my normal jeans (size 8!) Don’t think I’ll be showing for a long time yet and lots of my work friends reckon I won’t have a big bump! At my midwife appointment we found a heartbeat so baby is still there!
