hello,

probably being silly but I'm scared stiff now of a chemical, is this progression okay? i have got 2 positive digital 1-2 weeks yesterday and today but I'm paranoid that yesterday's frer and today's look the same colour? partner thinks I'm mad but need some advice or words of wisdom, I'm such a worrier :(

thanks so much

@Hopex3 looks good to me, definitely getting darker, you need to remember though HCG only doubles every 48 hours, so if you really want to notice a difference, don't test everyday! X

Hopex3 · 28/03/2019 19:56

thank you, just after what happened last year I feel super alert. my partner has asked me to stop taking anymore as he says it's a waste of money 🙈 I do agree with him but it's so hard even though I know it's making me panic more and doesn't actually change anything. even though the line looks the same colour to me today's did come up quicker.

thanks, yeah I didn't think about that it's every 48 hours and not 24 x

@Hopex3 well it has got significantly darker in 4 days so I think you should relax and be happy with that! Maybe take another test in 7 day it should be darker than the control line by then :) xx

Hopex3 · 28/03/2019 20:17

yeah i think i need to try and resist tomorrow although I know it'll be hard. need to just think if something happens it will regardless and I'm probably just stressing myself out more so than necessary but can't help but panic :( x

After the test has given you a result in the timing window (usually 10mins or so), the test results then become invalid. So whatever your 8dpo test shows now is not a reflection of the levels of hcg....that’s not how they work. Increasing hcg levels can only be determined by a blood test.

I realise that these tests look like they’re getting darker, but you won’t necessarily detect a chemical or otherwise from an OTC test, sorry. Take folic acid, RELAX! and eat properly....and then see your GP for advice.

HJWT · 28/03/2019 21:22

@Sessy19 doesn't make much sense when GP's and EPU tell you to test every 48 hours.

Sessy19 · 29/03/2019 07:03

HJWT It makes perfect sense that the doctors tell you to test every 48hrs, because you are confirming every 48hrs that you are actually pregnant, that there is hCG in your urine. An OTC test isn’t a measure of HOW pregnant you are, just that you are.

Read the instructions on the leaflet that comes in the box with the test. It gives you the manufacturers intentions for the test. You can find instructions online if you google it 😊

I’ve tried to explain it best I can, hth

Sessy19 · 29/03/2019 07:05

A pregnancy test CANNOT tell you whether a pregnancy will continue or not. No one can. Not even a Consultant OBGYN.

Hopex3 · 29/03/2019 07:22

thanks for responses i know it isn't but just makes me feel a bit better after what happened last year. I've done another digital this morning which came back saying pregnant again so think will just leave it now or will end up costing me a fortune. unfortunately around where I live they wont do blood tests or scans unless there is a sign of an issue. so will just try and relax as much as possible from now on and see how it goes 🤞
thanks again x

Looks good so far @Hopex3 I was in the same boat as you after a MC and tested for ages to check lines, just be wary of the digital tests, mine took ages to go up to 2-3 and I never got a 3+ (stopped testing in the end) and I'm now 24 weeks in a healthy pregnancy, digitals just made me more nervous

7circlemats · 29/03/2019 07:50

Looks great OP. I had a MMC and then afterwards my daughter with no problems. Totally understand how anxious you are feeling. The people who are saying the line strength means nothing are talking crap and of course no one knows what will happen in a pregnancy but a line steadily getting stronger definitely indicates that things are going in the right direction. Good luck OP 💐

Jackshouse · 29/03/2019 07:53

I would opt for a private scan at 7 weeks but again that will only show that you are currently pregnant. Many women continue to test positive after a miscarriage so unfortunately repeated testing is pointless.

Hopex3 · 29/03/2019 10:04

thanks all - and to those who also had losses I'm very sorry I don't think I've ever felt worse in my life. I think that's why you get so anxious the next time, feels almost too good to be true! especially as last time took 10/11 months whereas this one took only 4/5. fingers crossed, have a midwife appointment on the 12th so hopefully can get there and put my mind at ease a little x

just as an update and i know i said i wouldnt but once more 😂 the test line is now same colour as control and i got 2 cheapo Poundland strips a pretty decent colour too. enough now, I'm throwing my last frer away 🤞 xx

Hopex3 · 29/03/2019 13:42

I figured I should stop now as i know at some point it'll start stealing from control line probably but now i dont have anything to really compare as realistically it can't get much darker 😂 i really wanted to make sure I could turn something much less sensitive aswell and now i have and i know anything can happen I feel better. thanks all x

I had a MMC last Spring and similarly felt very anxious when I got pregnant again.

I booked myself a private reassurance scan for as early as you'd be able to see a heartbeat (I think 7 or 8 weeks so I booked for 8 weeks) and then just counted down the days to that - much closer than 12 week scan.

Probably only the cost of a handful of FRERs too!!
