I am 6 weeks pregnant. Started folic acid as soon as I found out when missed period at 4 weeks. I wrongly thought he neural tube was open till 12 weeks but was shocked to read it shuts around 6 weeks. I'm now worried sick about the missed weeks of takin it. We had been loosly TTC kinda not thinking about it n seein what happened n I'd been taking it on of and off but had fallen on way side. I've found out early so that's good n midwife said I will have got some from food but just can't shake the worry it's making me feel ill. Nothing I can do now n I'd like to think things are written in the stars anyway but any tips on shaking the worry most welcome! My first child I didnt find out till I was six weeks gone n started it then he was just fine x

I missed the half of mine throughout! Working loooonngggg shifts and forgetfulness the but I have a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Please stop worrying as stress will be worse than missing some folic acid. Congrats OP!

Midwife also reminded me it reduces the risk. Takin it doesn't mean Def won't happen. My last pregnancy ended in loss and I'm extra anxious. Thank u

You know from experience that not taking is straight away doesn't always mean the worst. I think most of us probably get enough folic acid anyway with just a reasonable diet, taking supplements is just a precaution. Many women don't take it at all because they literally can't stomach it

Awe no wonder you're anxious!! I'm sorry for your previous loss. It does provide what is needed but you're honestly ok! You were loosely ttc and it's happened for you and that's a good thing. Take it day by day OP. Midwives are paid to quote xyz. So they'll say it to everyone so no need to worry and you can take it from now on. I assume they gave you healthy start vitamins? Forgive my ignorance if they didn't but in my clinic, they do. So that will be you on track. Lots of self love!!!
