I thought I saw it mentioned on a thread somewhere but cant remember...

I am borderline anaemic apparently, 10.7, but they want me to improve it myself if not it will be tablets...

It's Spatone I think. They sell it in Boots.

TrinityRhino · 11/07/2007 13:58

metatone is also a good tonic but I don't think it is specific to needing iron

CountessDracula · 11/07/2007 13:59

floradix is good too

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:00

another vote for metatone here - fantastic stuff - ten minutes after having a swig its as if tiny invisible elves are gently lifting your eyelids up for you

katelyle · 11/07/2007 14:00

I took a liquid one but I'm having a mental block about what it was called. Does Floradix ring any bells with anybody? Flora...

Nbg · 11/07/2007 14:01

I use Spatone.

massivebigpantsface · 11/07/2007 14:01

JARM · 11/07/2007 14:02

Spatone!!

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 14:10

so spatone is completely fine when pregnant I take it?

OP posts:
Nbg · 11/07/2007 14:10

Yep, in fact you can have 2 satchets a day rather than 1 when pg.

dal21 · 11/07/2007 14:13

spatone is great - recommended twice a day when pregnant. mix it with a little OJ or something as vit c helps the absorption of the iron. I started taking it when slightly tired and it has helped my energy levels. also snack on dried apricots - very high in iron. Sainsburys do some under the so organic range and they are the nicest i have found.

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 15:56

right I have took some, I so hope its a miracle sure have eaten dried apricots for the first time EVER...what a weird texture....but they are nice, but the texture thing is odd

You will feel better fio - may take a few days, but NBG is right, take 2 sachets when pregnant - really boost yourself.

Take care and hope you pick up soon.

leCodgy · 11/07/2007 16:02

Dried apricots remind me of bollocks allbeit small bollocks but you know what I mean.

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 16:16

Get some carob from a wholefood/healthfood shop - you can add the carob powder to eg breakfast cereals (1 - 2 tsp) and also stir into eg yoghurt. Also can get bars.

This is an excellent source of iron - I got my levels up in a week what they were expecting in 3 weeks when I was v anaemic.

Has no adverse side effects and good to have food sourced iron.

Cadders · 11/07/2007 16:21

I've been taking feroglobin post-natally for anaemia. it has other things in it too - vit c and zinc i think. its liquid and doesn't have the horrid effects that iron tablets have. also cheaper than spatone. got it in the health food shop.

so how are you my beauty?

barbamama · 11/07/2007 23:07

what is the problem with the iron tablets they give you? Apart from turning my poo a weird colour I haven't noticed any extra problems - was already v constipated in the pg. Is that the only issue?

barbamama · 12/07/2007 20:05

just been to Boots and looked at the Metatone - doesn't have any iron in tho so puzzled as to how it helps. just tried to eat a dried apricot and it made me heave - don't like that kind of texture. Even with the iron tablets it hasn't gone up enough and I am knackered again - am eating brocoli and spinach, is there anything else I can try?

barbamama · 12/07/2007 20:06

will look out for that feroglobin - which health food shop did you get it in, thanks

Cadders · 13/07/2007 13:53

it was mainly the constipation which is doubly hell if you are torn , swollen ans=d delicate down there already

i got it from holland and barret - think they keep the bottles behind the till but have the packaging on display
