I had my 38 week check up today
I was assessed by my new MW and a student MW.
The student MW’s observations were contradictory to my thoughts. This sounds very pretentious but I’ll explain!
At my 36 week appointment, I was told by the MW he was at the front to the right, this wasn’t a surprise as I had been feeling the hiccups down low to the right and could feel his back along that side, plus his heartbeat could be heard clear as day with the Doppler, low to the right.
Since that appointment I have been doing the list of things I was told to do to encourage him into a ‘better’ position for labour.
After a week of doing the exercises (37+1) and after completing the list for that day I felt him move, his kicks from then on have been felt in my back and in my right side with me being able to feel his heel/foot protruding and sliding down my right side. His hiccups are now always low left and I can feel his back down my left side.
However, the Student MW, said do you feel his kicks etc to your left? I said no and explained what I felt and how I thought he was positioned based on what I can feel. She ignored what I said and placed the Doppler to the right, his heartbeat was very distant, like she was ‘looking’ in the wrong place.
My MW was on the phone at the time and I asked for her to double check (trying not to be rude) as I wasn’t 100% confident in what I had heard.
MW declined saying the Student MW has enough experience to know, but this was contradicted when she said to her to feel for the head and shoulders and the student MW said she didn’t want to as she didn’t feel she could determine that just yet.
I’m now sat here feeling unable to have any kind of confidence in any of what I was told today!!
Does anyone think I’m being an a*se about this and as it’s my first baby I shouldn’t believe I know better?
I just don’t get how it’s physically possible to feel the feet sliding about under my right rib at that angle if he’s supposedly facing my left?? I feel ZERO movements in my left rib/side now, only shunting movements lower left above my hipbone/groin.
I’m told his head is engaged and his shoulders are above my public bone. I’m flummoxed!
