Back labour experiences

Hi everyone,

40+4 today. FTM so not sure what I should be expecting hence the potentially daft questions.

Had a bloody show Wednesday at 39+6. A sweep Thursday at 40 weeks where midwife said I was fully engaged, 2cm dilated. DTD last night then had a bath around 7pm - pains started coming around 8.30pm every 10/12 minutes and have been pretty much continuous with a break overnight.

Pains are all being felt very low down in my back/top of bum and wrapping round into pelvis. I thought I would feel them in my bump but this doesn't seem to be happening. I just feel like someone is squeezing my back as tight as possible.

Not sure if this could be labour still?

Thanks for any replies!

My labour was all in my back both times. I found a tens machine really helpful.

Is your baby back to back

No one has ever said he's back to back but could still be possible?

My labour wasn't in my bump but was like strong period pains and shooting down my legs. The pain changed later on but tbh that parts all a bit of a blur!

It's different for everyone. It does sound like you're in labour. Good luck!

My first labour all my pain was in back/top of bum. Not sure if baby was back to back or not.

Learnt something in pregnancy yoga that was mildly useful with the earlier stages of the pain - you go on all fours, knees under hips, and partner places hands one on either side of sacrum and gently lets their weight push hands slowly down for a little bit.

Good luck!

Mine felt like someone was wringing out my kidneys. My DS was back-to-back and it was definitely uncomfortable! Had no pain in the front or sides at all - literally just in the kidney area.

I had back labour both times. Neither baby was back to back but for some reason all my contractions were felt in my back. I didn't feel a single one around the front. I have a uterus that is very tilted towards my spine so maybe that's why.

Do you have access to a TENS machine? That is connected to your back so I found it the most effective pain relief.

It was very painful but I guess contractions around the front are too, I just wouldn't know.

All 3 of my baby's where back to back that's why they said labour was more painful

Op one sign of back to back baby is the front of your bump being flat
