What did your mucus plug look like? TMI alert

I'm 37+4 and I've just wiped and found a snotty looking discharge on my toilet paper when I wiped. It was yellowy green looking. Does this sound like the mucus plug to those that have had it? If so do I need to do anything and is this a sign that labour is near?

Snot for me. I was 40 weeks and labour started within 12 hours. At 37 weeks it may not be that imminent!

GreenTulips · 24/03/2019 10:25

Yes sounds about right

Good luck

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 24/03/2019 10:25

Snot is how i would describe mine. And lots of it. Mine came out about 3 days before I had DD

Good luck OP Flowers

Yes mine was greenish and big. I went into labour a few hours later and gave birth about 6 hours later.

NanooCov · 24/03/2019 10:36

Mine was very firm. Like jelly. If it's just a yellow smear I'd suggest it's discharge rather than mucus plug. Maybe best to mention to your midwife in case of an infection.

Jamhandprints · 24/03/2019 10:36

It is a sign that thing are going to happen but it may not be straight away. You aren't too early so I think you just need to wait. Walking, birthball bouncing, hip rotations can help move things along but also make sure you get a good rest while you can to get your strength up.
Call midwives if your waters break or contractions start and become painful.

GertrudeCB · 24/03/2019 10:37

Greenish snotty jellylike with a couple of bloody streaks. Labour started a few hours later.

lw26 · 24/03/2019 10:38

Mine was yellowy snot looking. Had dd three days later at 37+5!

MrsXx4 · 24/03/2019 10:39

I lost mine at 37+5 it was like clear snot with a little streak of blood. I was actually having mild contractions at the time which I thought was just Brixton hicks but I had my DS 36 hours later!

Good luck!!

MrsXx4 · 24/03/2019 10:43

Oh and in regards to what you should do, if you can then sleep! Try to sleep, eat and drink as you may well need all the rest and energy that you can get! The adrenaline kept me going through my labour but I had been awake for over 48hours contracting and the come down once the baby was here was something chronic! I’ve never felt exhaustion like it!

greyspottedgoose · 24/03/2019 10:52

Snotty egg white 🤢 my waters went about 6 hours later

mrsed1987 · 24/03/2019 10:53

Yep same here. I had ds 4 days later at 38 +1

Lizbiz89 · 24/03/2019 11:22

Thanks for the replies. Also been having loose bowel movements as well since yesterday so I guess things are moving along. Just going to try and relax as much as possible and let things progress naturally.

Like someone with a sinus infection had sneezed in my knickers.

Wordie · 24/03/2019 12:44

I lost mine last Monday 37+2, it sounds the same, green and snotty! I’ve felt unwell all week and had loose bowels, back pain and cramps. I’m hoping it is the start of something too but I know it can drag out for a few weeks!

Good luck and fingers crossed for us both that it happens soon, I am sick of being pregnant!!!

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 24/03/2019 13:28

Yes I had mine the night before with both dc

legalseagull · 24/03/2019 19:21

I'm 39 weeks and have been loosing mine since Friday. Started off just little bits when I wiped. Looked like caramel Sad Then it's increased and is so thick and sticky it's difficult to get off as it's stuck to me. Honestly, it's knocking me sick. I just want this baby to show up now!

sirmione16 · 24/03/2019 19:23

Lost mine at 39 weeks and never went in to labour naturally - unfortunately it's rare that losing it means labours coming apparently.

OreliaRoc · 24/03/2019 19:26

Sounds like mine too! It was green and jellylike with a bit of blood. I was 36+6 and my waters broke about 12 hours later.

exitstageright · 24/03/2019 19:31

Dark brown slug

But I was in full labour at that point.

MyMumDimensionJumps · 24/03/2019 20:48

Sounds like it to me. It has a sweet/almond kind of smell to it. I started to lose mine gradually about 38 weeks and had my son this week at 39+3. I think a bloody show is more indicative of imminent labour, but it could be a while yet. Any other signs of labour?

Babyyy12 · 24/01/2022 11:54

Hi I’m 37 weeks plus 6 days and I have been having a snotty greenish like discharge for about 4 weeks now and it is gradually getting a lot more. Is this my mucus plug? Also been having periods like cramps and back ache for a week now does this mean labour is near?
