Herpes in pregnancy

Hi ladies, I was diagnosed with hsv2 6 years ago. I had a baby 19 months ago and managed to deliver vaginally even though I was so worried everything went fine. Anyways I’m pregnant again and all the fear and worry has come flooding back to me. I am currently experiencing my first outbreak in 6 months so I’m just feeling really down and worrying. I keep reading all these horrible stories about babies catching herpes during childbirth and honestly just scaring myself silly. X

Hi lovely, just wanted to say I know the anxiety you feel right now and you’re not alone. I’m currently pregnant with my first and also have hsv2. Scared doesn’t cover how I feel about child birth and my baby catching it so much so I was adamant I was going to have a c section but meeting with a consultant to talk it through really helped and hearing the statistics and that even if it were to happen they can treat it. And remember you will have passed all the antibodies you have across to your baby! Hearing your first went so well is wonderful. You should really focus on that and STOP reading things online you’ll only make yourself feel worse and stress is no good either.

Thank you for your reply!! I thinking I’m feeling pretty down about it and worrying because I’m currently experiencing a outbreak and I always get really down. With my first pregnancy honestly I told my midwife at my booking in appointment and it was never ever mentioned again at all. I remember for the first 3-4 weeks of my sons life though I was pretty down and I spent a lot of time worrying something was going to happen but he is a very healthy 18 month old now. Congratulations on your pregnancy x
