When to start wearing maternity clothes

A very silly question I know, considering it’s my second, but when did you start wearing oh clothes, particularly trousers?

With my first I didn’t have a bump until past 4 months, as I was on the slim side to begin with. Now I have quite a bump at about 11 weeks and I started to show at 8 weeks. I find it way too early to start wearing maternity clothes, but my trousers are really tight on my bump, not uncomfortably, but I’m a bit worried they are pressing too hard on my belly?! Please don’t judge me, I know sounds a bit dopey.

I am 12 weeks and am not showing at all. I think I'll just start wearing them when they are more comfortable than my ordinary clothes. Don't suppose there is a right or wrong answer, just do what makes you comfortable 😊

Justincase87 · 22/03/2019 15:12

Whenever it's comfy! I started wearing maternity trousers/leggings at about 16 weeks (this is my first) and I'm 22 weeks now and only just bumpy enough for tops - do whatever makes you comfortable, you won't be hurting baby with tight clothes though

I got an extra few weeks in normal clothes by using a hair bobble to fasten up my trousers!

GabbyGal · 22/03/2019 15:28

I was in maternity jeans at 14 weeks because my usual jeans were too uncomfortable, and I lost weight in the first trimester.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 22/03/2019 15:31

I started once the elastic hair band on my jeans was at stretching limit :-), it was around 16 weeks.

Whenever your normal clothes don’t fit comfortably!

I found some of my ordinary dresses and tops were fine for ages (some until 27/28 weeks even!) but jeans and tights I was in maternity much earlier, about 16 weeks I think.

Do what makes you feel comfortable and at the end of the day no one will know you’re wearing maternity jeans regardless of how far along you are!

Thanks mummies or mums to be. For those who had more than one pregnancy, did you also show much earlier on subsequent pregnancies than the first one?

If the maternity trousers are still a bit too loose stick with dresses maybe? I have some maternity jeans that fit me, and a maternity skirt for work, but all the maternity work trousers I've found are a bit too baggy on the bump. I'm 27 weeks tomorrow, and can still wear my pre-pregnancy dresses, as long as they are off the shape that flares from the waist a bit, rather than a pencil skirt style.

I'm 10 weeks on baby number 2. My trousers are already starting to feel tight and uncomfortable, especially jeans. I've got a load of trouser extenders to try and get a few more weeks out of the clothes I have, and I've been hunting on ebay for maternity clothes, since I have a much more formal job this time around. I say wear what makes you comfortable if you can.

Karigan195 · 22/03/2019 16:44

When you need the comfort. There is no right or wrong time. Personally I think I was 11 weeks when I insisted we went shopping as it was too tight on my belly

Karigan195 · 22/03/2019 16:46

You can fold the elastic of over the bump ones down onto your hips which makes them easier to wear at earlier stages

meepmoop · 22/03/2019 16:47

I'm 12 weeks and wear my normal jeans when I'm out but soon as I'm home I'm in comfies as they're getting too tight. I am currently wearing maternity leggings and they're so comfy.

It's my second and I'm showing way earlier and I'm even feeling movement to

wittyusermane · 22/03/2019 18:15

I didn't need maternity clothes until quite far on during my first pregnancy but needed them from about 14 weeks during my second!

I guess everything is already stretched second time around so it doesn't hold as well!

JoJoSaysHello · 22/03/2019 18:40

I’ve invested in leggings that are a couple of sizes larger than I’d normally wear as I’m no where near maternity size, but my skinny jeans are no longer an option!!
