Is it normal to sleep this much?

I’m 23 weeks (my first pregnancy) and for a few weeks now I’ve been tired as hell right after lunch, or sometimes after a long walk. Tired to the point where I have to lie down and sleep for 2 or 3 hours usually in the middle of the day.

I work from home and right now all I want to do is sleep but I’m going to push through and keep working as I’ve napped every day this week.

I’m due to get tested for gestational diabetes in a couple of weeks, and I don’t know if it could have anything to do with that? I’ve tried to cut sugar way down, and for a short while I thought that was solving the sleep problem, but the tiredness is back as bad as ever these last few days. I had a bit of a sugar lapse five days ago, not sure if that could be affecting me today?

Could it be diet in general? I’m working from Budapest and it’s quite hard to get vegetables when you eat out. Or is this just normal?

I am 27 weeks and I am extremely tired, I try to nap when I can if life allows, I go to bed at a reasonable time and I get up around 7..
I think it's just one of those things!

But I do find the more I sleep the more tired I am!
Have u tried skipping naps for a day or two and seeing how u go?
Easier said than done I know!
Have u had your iron levels checked?

Bernifal · 21/03/2019 15:07

Thank you! They were checked a while back and were fine, I’ll ask to get them checked again when I’m back in the UK. I keep reading it’s normal to be tired in the first and third trimester but not seeing anything about the second. I’ll try to skip the nap today and see if that helps.

Oh yes because the second trimester is when you are supposed to get your glow and all the energy back..
It's all a big lie 😂

You could be anaemic - I was but I wasn't informed until 34 weeks. I was pissed off especially as I had been told it was normal to be that tired - it isn't -, I have a history of anaemia and I was going to be induced early.

I'm 31 weeks and have felt exhausted throughout. I was fine with my first and not one for naps at all... but with this pregnancy, I will happily nod off anywhere and anytime.

I got my iron checked and all is fine. I guess for some of us ladies it's just one those things. I wish there was a quick fix though, I miss having energy haha

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I would sleep all day if I could lol

I’m 29 weeks and I’ve felt exhausted since the beginning aswell, never had my glow I was convinced I was anemic but wasn’nt , I haven’t been checked again yet but I think pregnancy is just different for everyone some feel good and some don’t x

19 weeks tmw and sleeping 2-3 hours easily during day if dd sleeps. Could sleep more tbh. Though i am having twins and been told the tiredness will get worse😒

RainbowMum11 · 21/03/2019 23:01

You could have low iron levels, that can lead to extreme tiredness, however it could very easily be normal pregnancy tiredness - I was exhausted throughout, although did have pgp from 18 weeks which didn't help!

Thanks so much for your replies. It’s good to feel reassured that this could be just be my normal. I will ask to get my iron levels checked when I get back just to be safe.
