Corpus Luteum - Pregnant or Ovulating?!

I am just over 4 weeks late for my period. I had an internal scan and hCG blood beta last week which were both negative. But I still feel as if I could be pregnant. I was told there was a corpus luteum secreting in my right ovary. The nurse gave me the impression this meant I had just ovulated and therefore couldn’t be pregnant. But could it mean I am pregnant and it’s secreting pregnancy hormones? Any advice/shared experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Oh and my uterus lining measured 8.3mm if that makes any difference?

If you are 4 weeks late for your period and had a negative beta hCG a week ago you are unlikely to be pregnant as they are pretty accurate. It’s possible stress, illness or just Mother Nature delayed you ovulating and you therefore missed your period - especially with a recently noticeable corpus luteum.

What did the Dr/clinic who did the scan and bloods advise should be your next step?

Thank you. They have told me to give it another couple of weeks and if still no period they’ll scan again. If definitely no pregnancy, they might be able to give me something to induce a bleed. It’s been through a round of ivf. Do you know whether you do get a corpus Luteum or is it removed at egg retrieval?

I can’t answer for definite about whether you get the corpus luteum with an ivf cycle using your own eggs in the same way as with a natural conception as my ivf was donor eggs so I didn’t down reg and then take stims. Reading other threads on the infertility board I think it’s likely you would have one because of the drugs used - and they could be the cause of the missed cycle but no pregnancy.

Perhaps you should post on the Infertility board to ask whether others on ivf have had a negative cycle and missed period with active corpus luteum?
