Unusual baby shower?

So I'm pregnant with my first and I've never been to a baby shower before so I don't really know what to expect.
My friends have said they'll plan one but I said rather than make a big thing out of it how about a garden bbq and drinks and invite people over? My partner is a chef as well so that will come in great for making the food! Haha
Am I being boring or does it sound okay?

Sounds a much better plan than a baby shower.

Not sure where the recent obsession with baby showers came from but I think they're naff and a bit grabby. I'd much rather attend a BBQ!

I hate baby showers, but perhaps that's because the ones I have been to have involved naff games including sniffing and looking at questionable types of chocolate in nappies.

Yours is a baby shower that I would be pleased to attend. Just simple gathering with food and a nice reason to get together.

Thanks for the responses! I didn't know if I'd get any good ones but I guess bbq sounds like a good idea then!
I've heard stories and saw pics of baby showers with the games and stuff like @MaverickSnoopy mentioned and sometimes they do seem a bit cringy!
I'm also not so big on the baby themed decorations and stuff but I think I could have a banner or two.. maybe not balloons with fire being around! 😂

I'm just inviting people over for a BBQ! Much more relaxed, and my friends partners are invited as my husband, dad and brother will be there. Just a reason for everyone to get together and eat some food really! The only baby showerish thing I will have is a cake! xx
