Birthing pool - what to wear?

Hey all,

So, I don't have a bikini that fits me whilst pregnant but I'm wanting to go in the pool whilst in labour.

I've had a look online and it may be me being silly but it seems daft buying one just for this one occasion, cos I probably won't use it again.

What did you wear? Or what could you advise?

I've heard of people just wearing their bra or a sports bra or something, is that okay? I know some people just go in naked but I don't think I would be comfortable with my boobs out.

I just wore a bra.

Bubblysqueak · 19/03/2019 18:41

I started with t-shirt and maternity bra but then hated the feel of anything touching my skin so everything came off (took them ages to persuade me to put stuff back on so I could be taken to the ambulance to be transferred from maternity unit to hospital!)

Farmerswifey12 · 19/03/2019 18:43

I just had a bra and t-shirt but to be fair I didnt really plan on using it

Maranello4 · 19/03/2019 18:44

I didn't wear any clothes, all fine

Moominmagic · 19/03/2019 18:45

I just wore a black stretchy vest from primark, kind of lycra type fabric. Got a larger size.

Willisleepeighthoursagain · 19/03/2019 18:51

Don't waste your money. I wore a cheap primark vest top and that's it. I ended up having to get out of the pool before I gave birth due to baby's heart rate, I ended up giving birth naked.

Willisleepeighthoursagain · 19/03/2019 18:53

Having your boobs out will be the least of your worries....you won't even notice!

LoisLittsLover · 19/03/2019 18:53

I just wore my bra

kelly877 · 19/03/2019 19:11

Thanks everyone :)

I think I'll do as you all say and just take a bra and a vest top, thanks :)

I bought a £3 triangle bikini top from Amazon. It covered what I needed but was also flimsy enough to be easily moved aside for feeding.

Amy326 · 19/03/2019 19:16

I bought a black bikini top for it! I didn’t like the idea of having a wet T-shirt on, thought it might annoy me and I knew I wouldn’t have wanted to be totally naked (lots of women don’t mind and that’s fine but I didn’t want my boobs out during either of my labours, was happy in a top whilst not in the pool and bikini top in the pool)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/03/2019 19:18

Just my bra

Anonymous2019 · 19/03/2019 19:25

A bikini top x

Roxyxoxo · 19/03/2019 19:31

I started with a T-shirt and bra, it wasn’t long until the t shirt came off and then spent most of my time naked! Take some bits and bobs in case so you have options, then just see how you feel at the time :) some sort of t shirt or vest; I wouldn’t recommend bothering with anything on the bottom.

QuietlyPondering · 19/03/2019 19:34

Nothing!

BeHereNowx32 · 19/03/2019 19:45

I just wore a bra. You won’t care at them time. Xx

GummyGoddess · 19/03/2019 19:51

@BeHereNowx32 I cared at the time, even during transition I cared very much and was still rational and fully aware of what I was doing. Perhaps not fully in control of my body during the peak of contractions but definitely in control for most of it.

Mississippilessly · 19/03/2019 20:01

I took a cheap stretchy vest top but ended up starkers. Honestly my boobs were he last thing on my mind and I enjoyed feeling unencumbered.

Good luck!

peterpanwendy · 19/03/2019 20:10

Black bra and black vest with the view to take one off, ended up out of the pool anyway so wasn't an issue in the end however.. I did want to wear black so that the blood wasn't very visible on my clothes when baby was placed on me but I got them wet and I'd only packed one black vest so my plan went out the window and in the end I was in white which got covered! So whatever you choose to wear pack back ups for if you have to get out :)

BeHereNowx32 · 19/03/2019 20:42

@GummyGoddess oh really? Fair enough! Forgetting that all experiences are different xx

Dueinnov19 · 19/03/2019 21:00

Last time I didn't get to the pool but I bought a cheap bikini top from Primark to take with me.

anniehm · 19/03/2019 21:04

I had a sports bra and cycling shorts - loads of comings and goings into the room, I got out an hour before I gave birth as I preferred the ball, do switched to hospital issue gown. I knew exactly what was going on, I suppose everyone is different but I'm a bit of a control freak

ilovetvandchocolates · 19/03/2019 21:15

I had everything planned, decided I'd just wear an old t shirt, when the moment came i was completely naked, the pain took over my modesty! Loads of people in and out the room, I couldn't have cared less.

Frizzy1986 · 19/03/2019 21:17

I'd stripped naked by the time the water was ready. I felt so comfortable.

GummyGoddess · 19/03/2019 22:26

@BeHereNowx32 Yep, when in labour with DC2 I was cleaning the house about 90 minutes before I gave birth after being in labour for about 7.5 hours! It suddenly really bothered me Grin
