Birth playlist?

What songs did you or will you include? I don’t want anything cheesy like “Push it” that will probably make me throw my phone out of the window.
I have a bit of a Spotify playlist going but I’m looking for inspiration.

I spent a long time putting together a 'happy' list for early labour and more meditative list for further along.

Listened to precisely none of it as it just got on my bloody nerves!

I didn’t know a playlist was a thing for childbirth.
I can’t imagine having this, but DD was back to back so not the most zen experience all round.
I imagine meditation type music might be helpful?

Is this your first?

I'm putting a couple together but mostly for something to do when I'm bored with watching Netflix and have no energy for faffing with house stuff. One is singalong 80s & 90s pop, songs to which I know all the lyrics, for distraction. One is gloomy Scott Walker-Nick Cave type stuff. 99% certain I won't want either and just want absolute silence from everyone…

I had Fawlty Towers for DC1 and The Archers for DC3.
Number 2 arrived before we had time to put anything on.

Highly recommend a birth playlist.

I had a Spotify playlist for the birth of DS2 - just of uplifting songs which meant something to me. I found having my own playlist helped keep me focused and (a little) distracted from contractions.

Husband threw in a few cheesy ones like ‘push it’ and ‘I will survive’ which actually were wonderful as the midwifes were singing along.

Turned out DS2 was born to one of our favourite smashing pumpkins songs and that will now forever mean so much to us all.

Have had playlists for each of our baby's births. Lots of favourites- the ones that fill me with joy. Our 3rd baby was born to Into My Arms by Nick Cave a week ago. It was beautiful.

Some people like to imply that anyone who hopes for a peaceful, positive birth is totally naive and it must be their first baby...we have had 3 positive lovely births, complete with their own playlists, so it's definitely possible!

No second, listened to the radio during the radio for no 1 (didn’t have on for pushing as it would have annoyed me).

I had a playlist ready for DC1, ended up listening to Magic FM the whole time as it was what the radio in the room was tuned to. Particular highlight - Everybody Hurts by REM.

Nearly there with DC2 now and have added some of the cheesy Mellow Magic tracks to the list, as fond memories!

I've currently done one for my little one, put all you favourite songs in there that's what I'd recommend.

Cookit · 20/03/2019 15:10

Thanks all.

Not sure why some people seem to think it’s controversial (??).. My first labour was by no means a walk in the park, but I did want to listen to music during (just played radio) and I remember clock watching and demanding the news be put on the radio when it was the right times (perhaps that bit was a bit odd). I wanted silence during the pushing stage.

The thing is, when you google it there are a lot of ridiculous suggestions such as “Push It” and “I want to break free”... I can guarantee these would annoy the hell out of me.

A lot of my favourite songs seem somewhat “inappropriate” - ie. too sad somehow - and I’ve maybe worked myself up thinking that that wouldn’t be right to listen to.

I’m going to try and get a good playlist set up. Idea of two is a good one depending on what tempo I want to go with.

@Cookit
Not controversial at all, each to their own etc.

Shahlalala · 21/03/2019 19:28

I’d never heard of it, but DH and I have been talking about it since! We have no.2 and now also trying to think of the best songs!
He’s a huge Bowie fan but if it’s as long as last time we might need to mix it up a bit. Grin

ninecoronas · 21/03/2019 19:32

I had a load of radgey songs like Prodigy's "Spitfire" 2nd time round because 1st time I went a bit feral and nearly punched a hole in the wall. Turned it up full chat and it worked wonders (I was at home not on a ward though)

Laura1609 · 22/03/2019 06:04

I’m planning on having one. Not necessarily the kind of meditative/spa like music but I’m going to use the playlist we had on for our wedding breakfast. I took so much time putting it together so it’s full of uplifting songs that make me feel happy
