1st Midwife appt 2 weeks ago and haven’t received blood test results

There was a cock up with the hospital not receiving my referral, so I ended up having my 1st midwife appt after my 12 week scan.

At the scan, I had the blood test for Downs, Edwards and the other one (can’t remember name) and the results came in the post a few days later (all very low risk).

I then had my lonnnng midwife appt a couple of weeks ago now, where they go through all yours and partners medical history, take more blood (seemed like lots - 4 or 5 vials), but I still haven’t received the results.

Is this normal? I’ve rang the unit but no answer!

I didn't get told my results until I saw her again! No news is good news Smile

I had my booking app today where they take the blood (we don't get the combined test here) and run the screening for Hepatitis, HIV, syphillis etc. I was told you only get a phone call if something's amiss, otherwise you won't hear from them. They should've made that clear if that is their policy though.

Last time I got the results at my next midwife appointment, the only ones that were ever sent out to me were the Downs/Edwards/Patau screening results.

I think they get sent to the midwife to interpret, and they are supposed to talk you through any concerns. If there is anything major they will call you, if not it will be kept until your next appointment and then stuck into your pregnancy notes. At least, that's what happens here anyway.

I only got my 12-week results in the post; everything else has just been done at the next midwife appointment – occasionally I get a "Your test was normal" text from the surgery but they're hit and miss. Anything urgently untoward they would get in touch to resolve!

I was told I will only hear from them if there is something wrong - no harm in calling to put your mind at rest though.

Ok thanks everyone! That’s really helpful Smile
