Loud noises!

Hi everyone! This is my first Mumsnet post so apologies if I don't get things quite right, it's all new!
I'm just over 7 weeks pregnant. I work full time but one of my hobbies is singing in a band. I'm wondering how much longer I can keep doing that (putting tiredness aside!) Rehearsals and gigs are all amplified so as you'd expect, loud. Does anyone know if that can start to impact negatively on the baby at all..?
Sorry if this is a silly question!

Loud noises are fine!

Baby is well padded in there

And no, the only silly question is the one you don't ask

LadyFromTheMountains · 18/03/2019 22:12

Thank you! That's good to know! I'll carry on singing then!

It's fine. Plus later in the pregnancy the baby will kick along to the music!

PBobs · 18/03/2019 23:13

Oh yes! In fact research shows that after week 24 (or something?) babies' hearing is developed so that once they are born any music you played to them repeatedly when pregnant will cause them to feel relaxed as they recognise it. We definitely play music for our bubs who loves a little shimmy to it at week 28. I wish I could sing!

Thank you all so much! Feel assured and safe now... And the idea of a relaxed, kicking, dancing wee baby in there makes me feel very happy! x

I'm 22 weeks today and baby is super active when I'm around loud music! Lots of kicks and wriggles, your little one will love it - and as people have said they will recognise music they've heard in the womb Smile

PRoseLegend · 19/03/2019 10:25

I have a 3 month old. I played music and sang constantly when pregnant with him, and he loved music from the start (appeared to be listening from around 2 weeks, and smiling at music and turning his head towards it from 6 weeks).

CaseofEllen · 19/03/2019 10:38

Oh it'll be fine! Once you start feeling their movements you'll notice how to kick along to certain songs/beats etc. It's very cute!

I went to see Fantastic Beasts at the cinema and it was so loud, baby didn't stop kicking the whole time Smile

I had to look this up as I will be 5 months when I see a very heavy metal band!
Apparently although the ears are formed at 5 months they are still not set up to hear properly so with that and all the padding as long as it's not day in day out of constant loud noise (chainsaw decibles) then baby will be fine and will love hearing you sing!

Be warned... I sang to my first dd through my pregnancy.... I have always had to sing to her for naps and bedtime.... not sure if it's coincidence but she screams if daddy sings 🤦‍♀️

LadyFromTheMountains · 19/03/2019 18:23

Wow - never thought the singing could actually maybe be a good thing! This all sounds lovely, we might get ourselves a little music-loving baby!
Dueinnov19 - Baby's dad really not a singer but he plays guitar so maybe that can be his naptime thing! 🤞🏼
