Can an IUD be inserted during a c section?

So for context - I have had a fertility journey that has taken years, and has led me to be finally pregnant with twins.

The chances of me falling pregnant without ivf are basically non existent, but I honestly don't want to take the chance so I'm considering going back on contraceptives after my birth. For medical reasons, I will be having a planned section.

I remember trying to get an IUD fitted years ago (copper, not hormone) and it was so painful I couldn't get it inserted.

But if they are going to be in my uterus anyway following the birth... Can they put one in at that point?

I'm no doctor but I'd have thought that your uterus needs to shrink down to it's normal size before you insert anything else in it. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yes they can x

It's possible, but only certain hospitals do it at present. Can't hurt to ask!

You can be sterilised if that's what you want.

Yes they can, I have been asked to decide in what I want to have done a copper coil or to be steralised, I'm berging towards being steralised but my husband wants me to have the coil and he'll have the snip instead

I'm not sure that I want to be sterilised as I'm not sure yet that I'm completely done, but I know I'm certainly done for at least two years! Hormonal contraceptives never agreed with me and I can't face condoms again after so long without them so I'll definitely ask my next consultant appointment if they'd be willing!
