In 38 weeks pregnant and yesterday was having stomach and back cramps, tightening in my stomach and sharp pains in my stomach and groin. They got regular and seemed to have a pattern, although inconsistent alot of the time.
After about 4 hours, I called the birthing centre and she said it sounded like I was in early labour, and to have a bath and relax, try to forget about it as it could take another 48 to 72 hours, and also to.sort out childcare for my son.

However, about an hour after speaking to her, the pain stopped. I was fine all night and although I've had a few niggle today, nothing like yesterday.

I'm completely fed up, I was so excited.and hoped this was it.
My husband drove us up onto the moors today as I wanted to try and "tempt fate", it works in the soaps!
So now I've been about 20 hours without these pains and tightenings.

Is that it now? Was it a false alarm or.cohld the midwife have been right?

Thanks

Well at any rate if it's stopped you aren't in labour now, so it wasn't the kind of labour that ends in a baby arriving. That's about all anyone can say really without hooking you up to a CTG.

There can be false alarms. You never really know it's proper labour until you have a baby or it's clear that you're dilating. Sorry. Try to relax, it could be a few weeks yet and will probably be many hours from start to baby even when it does kick off.

Your midwife could be still be right, this kept happening to me. My contractions started during the afternoon, and by 6 In the morning they were just a couple of minutes apart. I phoned the hospital, and the midwife said stick it out a little bit longer at home if I could. Within an hour the contractions stopped completely and I was bloody gutted. I got a couple of pains later on in the day but that was it. Then all the sudden they started again. I had a whole week of this before going into established labour.

I’m afraid to say I had this off and on for about two weeks before having my first.

Not what I wanted to read! I had contractions for 12 hours on Friday night resulting in hospital and diamorphine but cervix didn’t dilate. They then stopped and 24 hours later still haven’t restarted so I was sent home. I am very much hoping it gets going again soon, I can’t do this for 2 more weeks.

My first baby arrived within 5 hours!
