Is this the start of labour? *warning, photo!*

Hi. I’m 39+3. Been having loose bowels, on/off period cramps and pressure for about two weeks now. This morning whenever I wipe there’s constantly old blood mixed with discharge, it’s also just been leaking out onto a pad and not always when I wipe. Pic attached. Is this my plug? I thought the plug was meant to be a bit snotty but this is just very watery pink discharge with old brown blood. I have a midwife appointment in the morning anyway but should I contact anyone in the meantime or just want and see if this is the start of things? I haven’t had any period type cramps yet today, just a heavy pressure.

With both my pregnancies, I had pinkish discharge about 12hrs before the start of labour. Hope your hospital bags etc are all ready :)

PurpleFlower1983 · 17/03/2019 15:21

Looks like the start to me! Good luck!

Gobletoffire · 17/03/2019 15:42

Thanks both. I feel so so anxious Sad
I’ve had a bath but still losing bits and I’ve started getting period pains, but nothing that’s in a pattern yet. So I think something is happening

This is how mine started I was the same as you thinking it would be more snotty as that is how was described to me. I had DD within 24 hours of it starting! Good luck OP

Seeleyboo · 17/03/2019 16:27

Any news

Gobletoffire · 17/03/2019 17:00

Not yet, still losing bits of what I assume is mucus plug. I have period type pains as well but no pattern to them, just a constant dull ache

Sounds like something may be starting, but women vary massively as to whether things like this mean imminent labour or a few days to go yet.

emmagrace96 · 17/03/2019 17:03

Period pains were the start of labour for me. But I didn't lose my plug until my waters had broken x

Mum2020 · 17/03/2019 18:00

I went to the hospital when this happened. I was already 1-2cm dialated when they checked. (They kept me in because I was only 34 weeks). I went at 8am. until around 8pm, no pattern, no pain just weird contractions about 10-15min apart. Things suddenly picked up pace after that and I had my baby at 845pm!!

Mum2020 · 17/03/2019 18:03

Don’t be anxious. Try to relax but have everything ready. Is this your first baby? It’ll all be ok. Hugs

Gobletoffire · 17/03/2019 18:07

Thank you. Yes everything is ready, bags are packed and are downstairs near the door, everything is ready for baby and house clean and tidy so it’s just a waiting game. It’s my first baby yes and I’ve suddenly got so anxious over this past week about the labour.

Enjoy these precious few hours , have a lovely soak in the bath , wash your hair if you feel up to it , have a face mask and just stay relaxed ! Also make sure you eat lots of vitamin rich foods because you will need your energy very soon !

emmagrace96 · 17/03/2019 18:44

Yes definitely enjoy these last few hours/days, lots of good food and warm baths, watch your fave programmes. Good luck xx

LorelaiRoryEmily · 17/03/2019 18:45

That’s pretty much what mine looked like. So exciting! Good luck!

MyMumDimensionJumps · 17/03/2019 21:22

Have been losing small bits of plug since Wednesday (although there has been no blood yet). Nothing has happened here I'm afraid! Even the cramps I got at the start of last week have died down! I would be prepared though as you never know!

Gobletoffire · 17/03/2019 21:33

Thanks all, I’ve still got a LOT of bloody discharge? It’s definitely old blood coloured, not fresh, but I’m not sure what’s going on and whether it’s just the plug or something else. And period pain. I pretty much feel exactly like I would when I’m on my period! Will see what the midwife says in the morning x

The mucus plug is also called 'the bloody show'. I'm sure all if fine but ring the maternity triage unit if you want some extra reassurance! Good luck with everything Grin

annlee3817 · 17/03/2019 23:34

I had a whole day of this, then period type pains late that night which were irregular, then labour started a few hours later, fingers crossed things get going soon

Livpool · 17/03/2019 23:37

Good luck! Pains were the start for me - I woke my DH at 2 in the morning because the pain was so intense

mummamaker · 19/03/2019 15:22

Beautiful baby appeared yet or are you still suffering early labour ?

Gobletoffire · 19/03/2019 17:17

I had a midwife appointment yesterday morning and turned out I have pre eclampsia! So I was referred straight to the hospital and they decided to induce me, I was already 3cm dilated and they managed to break my waters easily. Baby Reuben was born this morning at 04:28am weighing 7lb 3oz :) x
