No, the sonographer would absolutely have told you and referred you if your baby had a serious abnormality such as a missing part of their skull.

Relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

imsorryiasked · 17/03/2019 09:07

It looks absolutely fine.

GreenTulips · 17/03/2019 09:08

My DD scan pic looked like a puppy!

She turned out fine

MrsFezziwig · 17/03/2019 09:09

What did the sonographer say? Despite working in medical imaging for 30 years, I wouldn’t dream of having an opinion on a speciality that is not my own but appearances can be very deceptive in ultrasound. That’s because you have a two dimensional picture of what is a three dimensional object. I would be surprised if you had been been sent away with a picture where half your baby’s skull was missing without a word of explanation.

SoupDragon · 17/03/2019 09:11

I agree - if there was something like that wrong you would have been referred or a specialist called in to look at the time.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 17/03/2019 09:13

I had anencephaly picked up at a 10wk scan. Please don't worry if there had been an issue you would have been told immediately.

Starstruck2020 · 17/03/2019 09:13

Your baby was probably moving. The ultrasound is like a segment of an image, you know when you take a photo and someone is moving their hand, it blurs and it looks like they are missing the hand it would be similar to that

The sonographer would have said something to you Cake Flowers

EnjoyItAll · 17/03/2019 09:37

during my scan the sonographer checked the head from different angles. she talked me through what I was looking at so I would have thought they would have picked up if something was wrong. If your worried maybe call your midwife?

EnjoyItAll · 17/03/2019 09:38

also mine looks like it has no arm and just a floating hand! and it's leg disappeared in another! they aren't great quality images

Wards · 17/03/2019 10:44

They didn't say anything at the scan- I didn't notice until afterwards

3/4D scan of DS at 16 weeks. I can assure you all of his skull is and was present! Don't worry, it's just the way ultrasound scans work that result in these kinds of images. The trained sonographer would have mentioned a massive abnormality like a missing skull.

If there was a problem they would have told you. They would be investigating it and getting second opinions.

MrsFezziwig · 17/03/2019 11:32

Where did you have the scan done? I can’t think of any clinical setting where they wouldn’t have given you some information about what the scan showed.

Obviously if you had it done in a private setting that just scans the baby because you want a nice picture, well you’ve got a picture.

TheoriginalLEM · 17/03/2019 11:36

Its a snspshot. Ultrasound images go in and out of focus. Air and fluid appear black on ultrasound so probably those or just a focus thing. There is in my non medical untrained opinion absolutely nothing to worry about.

We do though don't we - we jyst want them in our arms!!

Congratulations on your lovely baby Flowers

Wards · 17/03/2019 11:39

It was done at the hospital as a check up due to previous miscarriages. You are helping to calm me down - thank you x
