Pregnancy on long-term antibiotics

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone here is on long-term antibiotics whilst pregnant? I recently had to have my spleen and part of my pancreas removed which frustratingly has put trying to conceive on hold (now gearing up to try), but I’m now on lose-dose penicillin for life to prevent serious infection.

I’m eating a lot of probiotic food and taking probiotics & prebiotics to try counter the worst effects (eg already had a random bout of thrush, because I had a slight chocolate based melt down - body definitely can’t cope now) and keep my gut healthy etc, but I’m frustrated and worried that taking antibiotics throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding could impact my future childrens’ health. I don’t want them to be at higher risk of infection because of this expose to antibiotics. It’s not an option not to take them though, especially in first two years after surgery.

Has anyone been through this? Did you do anything specific to deal with it? What did your doctors say, if anything?
