Transverse 37 weeks

I'm 37 weeks and last two appointments with midwife she has said baby is head down. I've explained both times that I think baby is moving in and out of this position as I clearly feel head at one side of my tummy and kicking feet at the other a lot of the time.

Today baby is def transverse and its very uncomfortable. The head is def there on left and getting movement far right which must be its feet. I can feel it's back across my midsection.

I have an appointment next week, if baby is head down again I feel like she will
Just ignore me again saying how it keeps moving to transverse. I know things can get dangerous if transverse at a late stage.

Not sure what to do and getting anxious!

Hi, i have no experience of my baby lying transverse but at the later stages of pregnancy he/she starts running out of room and so may or may not turn again. I don't really think that you have any control over this, but if i were you I'd look up some bahy spinning exercises to see if you can get bubs to move again!
Sorry i can't be of more help...i know they can move right up until birth so the midwife may ignore or she may book in for more checks. Not sure!
Hopefully my message will bump your thread up and someone useful will respond! Good luck!

  1. I had a planned c/section for a breech - was a relaxed dream of a delivery. If you end up going down that route it’s niyhing to be worried about

  2. two ladies in my antenatal had ‘unstable lie’ much like you describe. One went in to spontaneous and quick labour -forceps used to stop baby bobbing back up. Other lady went for an ‘emergency’ (Unplanned) section as she had other issues going in after going into labour (SPD).

Please ask your MW about unstable lie. Best wishes x

Mine was head down for quite few appointments, then at 34 weeks suddenly went breech/transverse (midwife wrote breech in notes, I felt similarly to you though that she was transverse based on where I felt kicks etc). 3 days later a scan showed she was back to head down and she has been since. The later it gets the harder it is for them to move drastically, once she’s head down next time hopefully she will stay that way?
Worth asking at your next appointment though - say you think she keeps moving transverse/breech and ask if this is a problem at this stage (it’s only after 36 weeks that it matters I think) - they may suggest an extra scan. I guess if you go in to labour before then, get yourself to the mat ward sooner rather than later and explain your concerns re position, rather than waiting TIL the 5cm dilated stage you normally would.

Thanks everyone. I will def relay my concerns when I see the mw next week. I find her to be quite disinterested and wants me in and out, and doesn't seem to take me seriously when I've mentioned it before which is making me a bit anxious. I've even contemplated paying for a private scan to check baby's position as I feel like she will just fob me off again 😕
