Bleed next to gestational sac

Hi everyone.
I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been spotting on and off since conception. Then a few days ago I had a gush of bright red blood and one large clot that came away.
I went for a scan at the EPU and baby seemed ok in there with a heartbeat. However there is a bleed next to the sac.
Just wondered if anyone knows what causes this and what anyone's experience with this has been.
I'm trying to rest (as per the nurse's instructions) but it's very hard with two small children! Any advice very welcome.
TIA
X

Hi Op,

I had this at about 6 weeks, when I went for a follow up scan 2 weeks later they didn't mention the bleed and since that day where I lost quite an amount of blood, I've had nothing else (touches wood) They did advise it can just be absorbed back into your body, like a bruise, or it could still bleed. It shouldn't affect your baby if it's separate. Good luck Smile This is also my third and I never experienced anything like it in my previous, just keeping us on our toes x

I had the exact same as you at 6 weeks, the bleed was right next to the sac also, it felt like a lot of blood but was only 1.4cm x 0.44mm when measured. My baby was fine and had a heartbeat. I'm now 10+2 and have only had slight spotting after sex, which we have cut back on significantly. Waiting for my 12 week dating scan date and time nervously ! I'm sure you'll be fine. I have been having a thought time to rest also as I have an 18month old who is absolutely non stop haha. X

I had this. Im currently 31 weeks pregnant, had 3 gigantic bleeds with clots and continuous spotting from 8 weeks-17 and then it stopped and by 20 week scan there was no sign of bleed. After 2 miscarriages I was positive I'd lost her but she's wiggling away! Goodluck xxx

I had this with my last 2 pregnancies. Everything was 100% fine, two straightforward deliveries and two healthy babies. It's absolutely terrifying at the time. hopefully your 12 weeks scan will reassure you xx

I had a similar situation to you- I was abojt 7 weeks pregnant too when I had a bleed next to the sac, I bled for about 9 weeks, with clots coming away but i have a now healthy 2 year old DD. Sending you best wishes c

I had a scan at 8 weeks (currently 10 weeks) as I was having some abdominal pain, and a bleed was found next to the sac similar to you. My sonographer said it can be common and they're not sure what causes it. I haven't had any bleeding as of yet though which I thought I would by now 🤔🤷‍♀️ xx

I went for a private early reassurance scan at 6 weeks and had a bleed right next to the sac. The sonographer said it was common and I’d never have known about it had I gone for the 12 week scan, sure enough it had gone at 12 weeks. I also had another bleed which she said was the corpus luteum. Also gone by 12 weeks. I had no vaginal bleeding as a result of either. I’m making up for it in the third trimester mind!!!

Yep. Same at 7 weeks. Sonographer said that it could be from the implementation and i do recall getting implantation bleeding before my bfp.

It had gone by 12 week scan. My baby is now 14m.
