I thought I was 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant by my LMP date but at a recent scan I was told that I’m earlier than that. I had a scan on Sunday and Monday and now waiting for 2 weeks before I have another scan.

I noticed very dark brown discharge when I was wipping my self on Sunday and then on Monday I noticed dark red discharge and then feel like I’m having a period. Everytime I have been to the toilet since I have passed dark red discharge. Is this normal? I cant take all the anxiety of waiting and would really appreciate just getting some insight. X

Hi OP, didn’t want to read and run. Unfortunately it sounds like you could be, especially as it feels like a period. I assume this means you’re getting some cramps? Is it bloody or more like spotting/discharge? Some people do bleed through pregnancy and everything turns out to be fine. Can you bring your scan forward, or if not could you pay for a private scan in the meantime?

Did you have an early scan because you’re having early pregnancy support (previous history of early miscarriage, perhaps?) or was it a scan you paid for?

If the former, I do recommend you see your midwife ASAP. Some bleeding is not unusual in early pregnancy, but if you’re worried you should seek medical advice.

I went to A & E on Sunday because I noticed the discharge. So they offered me a scan. Then the following day the bleeding was more in my eyes so they kindly scanned me again. I’ve never experienced a miscarriage before. I’m wearing a towel but it’s not getting dirty.
I have period like cramps too. To me this feels like a period. I can’t see fresh red blood though. I’ve been told that I can’t do anything but just to wait.

@Fifi37 so how far long did they say you are measuring ?

Fifi37 · 13/03/2019 17:25

They didn’t say that’s the thing. I must be under 5 weeks.

@Fifi37 bit stupid how they didnt say? I had a scan at 4+3 and there was just a blob on the screen nothing in there and then a week later there was a baby with a heartbeat, so a lot can change in a week! Is it a lot of discharge or just spotting ?

Fifi37 · 13/03/2019 19:06

It’s like I’m having a flow of discharge not so much clot like but everytime I go. I’m so stressed. They told me they could see a gestational sac but no yolk sac or heart beat

It feels like a lot to me.

Spotting is common in early pregnancy and I had proper period pain for the first few weeks with my first (who is now a healthy toddler!)

Measuring behind is a bit more of a worry but then again I know people who have measured behind and gone on to have healthy a pregnancy.

Basically there is a lot to be hopeful about. It's so hard but it's just about waiting. Best of luck to you X

Bleeding is more common than we think. Maybe best to go back to EPU for a further scan. 5 weeks is really early to see anything so hoping they’ll see more at your next scan. Fingers and toes firmly crossed for you OP X

Fifi37 · 13/03/2019 20:17

Thank you all. I’m going to try and relax and wait for my scan on 25 March. I’m not going to lose faith x
