Hcg lines not getting darker

Pollyrose1x · 12/03/2019 20:12

My last period was January 28th 2019 on 5th March I used a first response test to test for pregnancy which came back positive with light pink line.
On 11th March I tested for pregnancy with a clear blue digital which said Pregnant 3+ weeks. However, due to a lack of symptoms I tested for pregnancy again today using a First response and saw that the positive line was still very light. Although evident, it has not got dark in colour. I am now very worried. HELP!

The tests are not designed to be quantitative, ie let you know how much hcg is present. They are designed to be a simple yes or no. Try not to read into the line strength, if you're looking for reassurance an early scan will give you much more peace of mind. I had an mmc last year and in this pregnancy Ive had 3 early scans to keep me sane, the first at 6 weeks. The feeling of relief when we saw the heartbeat was amazing. I was a poas addict, but once you get a positive they can only tell you so much.

If you got 3+ yesterday on clear blue then you must have a really decent level of hcg in your system, I've heard that once you're hormones get past a certain level the tests can strangely get lighter and you actually get a darker line if you dilute the urine. I know it's so difficult not to worry but hopefully things are all progressing well.

ProfessionalBarren · 12/03/2019 20:49

Silly question but are you looking at the right line? The control line will likely be lighter than the test line if you’re getting 3+ weeks on a digital.

BettyBe · 12/03/2019 21:03

Are you sure it's not the control line you're looking at on the 1st response test? The result line is on the left and the control one on the right. I had a panic as I could hardly see the line on the right side and some googling helped reassure me that that was the control line.

Pregnancy tests are qualitative not quantitative. You need HCG blood measurements if you're looking to see how concentration of HCG is changing - pregnancy tests don't tell you that. Also after a certain period of pregnancy they don't work properly anymore as your HCG is too high.

Morning Ladies, just after some Advice. I did my FREP test at 11DPO and used the other 12DPO I then used a Sainsbury’s cheapie today. When I used FREP the line is faint but it’s visable however the Sainsbury’s one is so faint I can barely see it only in the right lighting. I’m now worried that this is a bad sign or could it just be that I’m still early and a cheap test won’t pick up as much hCG?

Why are you continuing to test?

I literally did one test to confirm I was pregnant, it didn't cross my mind to do more tests. What is the point in this?

Ohbabyx · 13/03/2019 07:48

@needthisthread Maybe some people need to reassurance than others.

needthisthread · 13/03/2019 08:01

Reassurance of what?

Ohbabyx · 13/03/2019 08:18

@needthisthread can I just say that some people come on here for help and advice and do not need people like you making them feel stupid. Never mind I’ll take my questions elsewhere.

needthisthread · 13/03/2019 08:20

Eh?

I was asking a legitimate question?

At no point in time did I insinuate that anyone was stupid Confused

needthisthread · 13/03/2019 08:22

I should add, my comment was to the OP, I didn't even notice another poster had asked just above my response.

PBobs · 13/03/2019 10:22

@Ohbabyx you need to start your own thread. You'll get more answers and it leaves the OP's thread free to get their answers.

Thats exactly how i feel!
I keep urinating on these sticks and it hasnt got lighter thank gosh but the lines arent darker just a light pink line and i think for a healthy pregnancy im assuming you need bright purple lines. Although clear blue digital confirmed so maybe i shouldnt worry so much

Through other forums i heard some ladies say they like to see the line get darker as it signifies healthy preg? However im driving myself crazy with the line analysis. My clear blue says positive so im going to stick with that.

Google the hook theory. That should put your mind at rest... I believe to get a 3+ on a clear blue your levels need to be over 2000. Is it possible you could be further along then you thought? Or it could be a multiple pregnancy...

Pollyrose1x · 15/03/2019 12:17

Really? Thats very interesting.
Havent experienced any major symptoms really.
Some mood swings, some tummy twinges and some tiredness but nothing severe. Im just trying not to worry but its so hard not to in these early stages. Think il be booking an early scan. My last period was on january 28th so im hoping by march 28th i should detect a heart beat. What do u think?

I didn't have any symptons till I hit 8+4 weeks and then they hit with a vengeance Grin. Symptoms tell you nothing.

I wouldn't look at dye tests anymore. If you really need to test do the clearblue digital with morning pee to see if it still says 3+ weeks (disclaimer: that is the highest it can go, it doesn't say 4 weeks).

As someone who has had multiple miscarriages I understand why you need the confirmation. Just remember that you only feel secure for about a day and then the doubt creeps in again. Totally normal.

And congratulations!

Pollyrose1x · 15/03/2019 12:27

Thankyou!!

I think im going to leave it. I have spent so much money on tests recently and they all say positive and im becoming really obsessed and distressing myself a lot. I think the next step for me is to book an early scan. I dont think i can wait to the 12 weeks!!!

Hi polly- I hope it all went okay. I’m in the same boat as you now! What was the outcome? Hope it was all good!
