I've been sick for about a week and a half now, really bad cold. I've been up all night coughing, was sick at the weekend from coughing so much, and last night my chest hurt so much I thought I was going to die. Today I've come home from work as I thought I was about to faint or throw up and I can't risk either in my job.
Should I talk to someone about this or does it all sound normal and baby should be okay? I'm 22+4 if that makes any difference

Go and see your GP - it's probably just a cold but get some support

Jackshouse · 12/03/2019 11:48

What are you symptoms?
Just lots of coughing and sore chest? I would see the GP to check for a chest infection.

shopaholics · 12/03/2019 11:51

Symptoms are:
Stuffed up nose
Coughing at least 20 hours of the day
Feeling faint/lightheaded
Very nauseous/actually was sick
Severe chest pains last night

I'll book a doctors appointment, I didn't want to waste time if people thought it's fairly standard and there's nothing a doctor can do. Thanks 😊

Until then snuggle up in bed or on the sofa with hot drinks, nutritious food, take paracetamol and generally rest.

I had a terrible cough, coughing up lots of yeuk, couldn't sleep except upright for a few weeks, vomiting a lot, whenever was coughing ended up in vomiting - assumed it was a chest infection TIL the vomiting started two weeks in, with not let up, and I'd had antibiotics by this point - blood test showed whooping cough

shopaholics · 12/03/2019 12:01

Whooping cough would be just my luck as I've got the vaccine booked in for this week 😣

OP posts:
Jackshouse · 12/03/2019 12:03

Were you vaccinated against it as a child?

QueenOfPharts · 12/03/2019 12:04

I had this around 17-18weeks when pg with ds. I had v similar symptoms. Woke up one morning thought I was going to die and had huge amount of chest pain. Please go to the drs, with the pregnancy as well as your symptoms they will take it seriously.I had a chest infection and got antibiotics and steroids. I was v worried about taking them but reasured and ds was born healthily a week after his due date.

shopaholics · 12/03/2019 12:05

I'm not sure, I asked the other day what vaccinations I've had but my DM couldn't remember.

I would put money on it that you have bona fide flu

Do you get the vaccine?

shopaholics · 12/03/2019 12:15

Flu vaccine is this week too! I wouldn't be so worried if I wasn't pregnant - when I cough I can feel exactly where baby is and every part of them because my stomach tenses up so much. I always thought flu was something that kept you totally in bed and it of action, whereas I've been up and about every day?

Sounds like a chest infection - I would get a GP appointment.

The coughing won't harm your baby. I had whooping cough at 6 months pg. Not at all pleasant and very uncomfortable, but baby was fine.

Mmmmbrekkie · 12/03/2019 12:21

It would likeyou have flu
Severity to varying degrees
Unlikely you will be allowed to have vaccine if I’ll like this

Mmmmbrekkie · 12/03/2019 12:21

Very late in the season for flu vaccine btw!

Flamingosnbears · 12/03/2019 13:35

I'm in the same boat as you... Since wednesday last week I've not been sleeping up all night coughing if I lie down it irritates my throat I've been taking paracetamol, gargling salt water and having hot lemon drinks not much you can take when pregnant and breastfeeding...

shopaholics · 12/03/2019 14:54

Went to the doctor and have been prescribed acidex- glad it's hopefully gonna get better but it's aniseed flavour which makes me want to throw up 😥 had a massive palaver trying to take it just now 😂
