Hello everyone! Any advice would be really appreciated!!

Sadly we lost our pregnancy, we found out at the 12 week scan (NYE) that the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks 5 days.
The very next day I went in for a D&C.
Things went as they should. About 2 weeks later the bleeding stopped.

Since then I’ve become concerned.

4 weeks after the bleeding stopped I started spotting lightly, hoping this would start a period but it never did.

I’ve since been spitting for the last 6 weeks on and off. Yet no sign of a “real” period.

So I’m 10 weeks post D&C and no period and no symptoms other than irregular spotting.

Any ideas ? Should I book a doctors appointment?! Can they kick start my cycle? It’s so frustrating as we’re so keen to try again :(

Just feels like the stress of this is never ending!!

Thank you xxx

Hi
First off I want to say I am so sorry for your loss. I had an mmc which was discovered at the 12 week scan back in 2017 and baby measured about 9 weeks. Heartbreaking isn't it??

I had the medical management tablets which didn't work so I had to have an emergency d&c in the end and my periods came back pretty much immediately (to start with anyway) but my fertility did not. I pushed for about a year for help from my GP and all I got was 'it takes time after a mmc and we can't investigate until you've been TTC for a year after mmc'.

I pushed and pushed and turns out I have pcos, which I had no idea I had. Took medication for it for 4 months and I'm now 12 weeks pregnant again.

All I'd say is go and see the gp but if you feel something isn't right PLEASE keep pushing because they WILL help you if you bother them enough! I wonder all the time what would have happened if I'd left it a year like they said and how much worse things could have been but you know your own body.

I had Metformin which helped regulate my periods and made me ovulate as just before I started them I hadn't had a period for 4 months! Took the Metformin and they went to 31 days!

Good luck, you will get there! Xxxx

Thank you for your reply! And congratulations 💖💖💖

I managed to get a doctors appointment this afternoon. He started by saying anything form 4 weeks to 6 months is normal?! I’m not sure how true that is... I explained to him that it was really bothering me, so I have bloods tomorrow to check my hormone levels are all as they should be... I just hope we can find an answer from this and start trying again soon xx

Wow - I had to go to my GP soooo many times and sob my heart out each time for months before they did my hormone levels etc! Like I said turned out just to be pcos and a few months of treatment and I'm pregnant again! Your GP sounds much better than mine!!

MMC is so cruel, give yourself time to recover and I hope you get your rainbow baby soon 🌈 xxxx

Helena112 · 15/03/2019 16:28

Thank you 💖 hormone results came back as normal!? Not sure how that can be. I just wish my periods would start again :( going to book another doctors appointment next week.

I would!! Keep going and pestering then until they find out the answer, but sometimes it just takes a while to go back to normal unfortunately. But if you think something isn't right keep pushing for answers! Xxxx

Hoppinggreen · 15/03/2019 19:02

Sorry for your loss
I was told it would take up to 8 weeks for my period to come in very similar circumstances to yours
It actually never did as I got pg immediately- she’s 14 now and I was pg for a whole year in total!
I’m not saying you are OP but if you have had sex it’s not impossible, apparently you are very fertile after a D&C

noimaginationatall · 15/03/2019 19:49

I had a MMC last April and D&C. I have tracked fertility since trying to get pregnant and only this month did I see a strong positive on OPK. My periods and bleeding didn't settle until July(ish) I phone EPAS several times and they were not interested. No idea how normal this is and might not be exactly what you want to hear but you're not alone.

Maybenextmonth · 23/03/2019 20:03

Hello @Helena112, I thought I'd tell my story as I think people should be aware of the risks of a D&C.

Im really sorry for your loss and I hope you're coping okay. The wait to try again is awful! I had a miscarriage in Sept 2017. It was natural but i needed a D&C for retained pregnancy.

Anyway, period didn't return for ages and when they did they were very painful and really light! I saw the doctor so many times but they wouldn't refer me as it's 'normal' for things not to be back to normal as your body needs to recover. I had to wait the year before I was referred. Ended up needing treatment for Ashermans Syndrome which was caused by an overly aggressive D&C. Ashermans can lead to light or no periods at all. I had various blood tests prior to diagnosis but because my hormones were all fine and I was ovulating etc, they said all was normal and to just wait.

I really don't want to scare you, and it is super rare, but you know your body so like others have said, really push for more information and referrals as you really do know best!

Helena112 · 23/03/2019 20:39

@Maybenextmonth thank you for your response. I'm sorry you had to go through all of that and the wait and dismissive GP is horrendous.

My hormone levels came back as fine, but I'm still really worried. I went back to the GP he has now requested an internal scan (I'm not sure what they can see on an internal scan?) but the scan won't be for another 4 weeks! I just seem to be continually spotting and feel like I'm having a period cramping wise... it's horrible. I really need some answers.
Thank you again for responding!

No problem at all. Thank you, it's been tough but hopefully we're coming out the other side now.

I was the same, all hormones were fine, but I knew something wasn't right. Being referred for an internal scan is really good though so soon! I had to wait a year from my miscarriage and then it was about 2 months from the referral to get an appointment.

I don't really know how much exactly they can see on a scan but I had an internal scan at my first referral appointment with the consultant and I think his face said it all. From the scan he referred me for surgery to investigate and 'rule out' Adhesions; which is what I ended up having. I would hope that if you see someone who knows what they are doing then they would spot if something wrong, but I think it's so important to see someone who excels in their field.

I really feel for you just needing to know what's going on. You feel so helpless while it's all going on. I have my fingers crossed for you that it is just a case of things levelling back out after the trauma of miscarriage and nothing more sinister.

Eantonette · 24/03/2019 08:38

Hi @Helena112, I also wanted to share my experience as I was in the exact same position as you. Had my D&C in October last year after a MMC was told my period would return after 4-6 weeks.. three months later I am crying my heart out to my GP convinced I'd made myself infertile. She sent me for a ultrasound which showed everything to be normal and I had a period 2 weeks later which was heavy. I started TTC straight after and I am now 7 weeks pregnant. It is so incrediably difficult but my doctor also was not concerned. Good luck OP. Xx

Helena112 · 24/03/2019 19:50

@Maybenextmonth @Eantonette thank you both. I'm becoming more and more concerned the more I read online about Ashermans. I'm thinking of paying for a private scan rather than waiting on the NHS for another 4 weeks. It's driving me crazy. Did either of you pay for an internal scan? I'm not sure where to go or how to go about it! I'm going to ask my GP tomorrow for suggestions.

OP posts:
Maybenextmonth · 24/03/2019 22:14

@Helena112 I'm really sorry to have worried you. Ashermans is rare but there is limited information about it which is why I wanted to tell you my experience. Others go on to have normal experiences after a later period so it could be nothing, but I've been where you are and I understand your concern.

I paid for an internal scan prior to my miscarriage - it's how I found out I was miscarrying. Google 'private Babybond scan' that's the one I used and They have clinics all over I think.

Again, I'm sorry to have worried you. Perhaps your GP could escalate it if you explain your worry?

Helena112 · 24/03/2019 22:52

@Maybenextmonth thank you for your help, don't apologise for worrying me I'd much rather know if I have Ashermans than not know! I'm going to book a scan with -

www.ultrasound-direct.com/mobile/women-ultrasound-scans/pelvic-scan-well-woman/

I'm going to phone them in the morning to check it's an internal scan and if they will be able to check for Ashermans. I'm going to try book an appointment for tomorrow evening if so!

Thanks again for your help.

I'm so shocked it was never discussed as a possible outcome of a missed miscarriage D&C. It would of 100% put me off having a one!

OP posts:
Maybenextmonth · 25/03/2019 13:30

Good idea making sure they can check for it before you go. They may just do pregnancy scans.
I wholeheartedly agree, I was so angry this wasn't mentioned before the D&C as well!

Helena112 · 25/03/2019 19:00

@Maybenextmonth thank you, I attended the scan this evening. It appears I have PCOS and that's why I have no period. No sign of Ashermans that she could see. Thank you for advice re Ashermans. I hope you get your rainbow baby very soon xxx

OP posts:
Maybenextmonth · 25/03/2019 19:36

@Helena112 Oh wow, that was quick! I'm really pleased you were able to get in so soon. I know very little about PCOS, but I hope you get any help/treatment available and all works out for you! Xx

Funkyblue123 · 21/08/2021 10:35

Hi maybenextmonth, sorry to hear abt the pain you've gone through. Does the Asherman’s syndrome always come with alot of pain with light bleeding? My first period was very light after d&c and it's been only 2 weeks since first period my second period came, it started with just light brown spotting, then light bleeding for 1 or 2 days then back to spotting again but no pain. It's day 8 now I'm still spotting:(
