Car Seats In a Focus C-Max- Help!

Hi, I'm 36 weeks with my first baby, the only thing left to get is the car seat and we are having a nightnare finding one to fit in our car.

Either the seat belt is not long enough to go round the seat or the seat has a base with a leg to the floor which we cant have due to under floor storage!

Just wondered if anyone else with a cmax was having the same trouble & if you have found a solution.

chicco synthesis car seat and base- no leg down to the floor on that one!

I am 20 weeks pregnant and we have ordered a cmax and want to use the Maxi cosi cabrio seat and are having problems finding out if it is definitely safe. We borrowed a seat from John Lewis and took it to the dealership and it seemed to fit with the seat belt. The seat belt is shorter than in most cars (and they promote this as a family car!!!!) but we found that if you do not click the seat belt in but put the strap round the back first it could be done. Once it was in it seemed secure to us, but I'd really like to hear from others whether they consider it ok. We cannot find out from anywhere (Ford, Maxi cosi, rapidfit Halfords) whether it is compatible with the base with the isofix.

right- i'm taking a cabrio down to the ford dealer three doors down to test, traipsing bases as well!

I await your return with bated breath!

CMAX was on my list of possible cars doesn't look good now I have to get 2 Britax Renaissance 9m-4y seats in plus a newborn seat then switch to a highback booster and two renaissance seats

well i wouldn't! because of the short seat belts you get a bit of buckle crunch, and the isofix base is imo questionable in the best fitting of cars, in the c-max it cannot sit flat on the seat so the leg is tilted.

Fab car, but chose a diff car seat!!!

I have a similar problem with a Saab 9-3 - apparently not many car seats will fit in them. I spoke to Mothercare who recommended going to one of their big stores with car parking where they have a large selection of car seats and they will have a go at fitting them and should find some that fit. I have more confidence in Mothercare than e.g. Halfords.

We don't have isofix in our car, have tried the mamas & papas seat and the bebe confort seat which have a base with no leg to the floor, however mamas & papas was no good as the base wouldn't sit flat and the bebe confort base fitted but then when you pulled the seat belt round it it lifted the base off of the seat!

We have tried the maxi cosi but they said the seat belt wasn't long enough, will try mothercare again asking them to try fitting the chest strap round the back first before clipping the seat belt in see what they say.

We thought the cmax was a great family car but is causing nothing but trouble

Pleased I've read this as we are thinking of getting a new car and I liked the look of the C-Max.

Maybe this will be more wait to my arguement for a Qashqai, thoughg I will have to check out the seat stuff on them...

I've got a c-max and can get my newborn seat in, its a bebeconfort, can't remember which brand but is a couple of years old, so no base. We have no probs with the seatbelts in the c-max, but in a different car we had in Africa we had to get the garage to lengthen the seatbelts, which they did with no problems - is that an option?

aprilmeadow · 09/07/2007 20:21

I have a c-max and i have a Britax 1st Class si. I have turned it round so it is rear facing (also have another that is forward facing for my 2yr old) and have not had any problems regarding the seat belts.

nearlythere · 10/07/2007 10:14

we tried some more sats and the best fitting ones we could find for the c-max were, Graco autobaby, graco logico s, britax cosy tot premium, combi tyro, chicco synthesis and bebe confort creatis. So loads of options on good fitting seats.

finally got rid of our c-max a feww weeks ago. it was a terrible car. Less than 3 years old, had repeated problems since new with so many things.........dont get one!!! I didnt even want to sell it privately as i would have felt too guilty to pass it on to anyone, so we part exchanged it, at least that way i dont know who it ended up with.
dd's first car seat was a backward facing graco with base (sorry dont know which model), which fitted fine. Problem we had was with second forward facing seat as head rests do not remove completely and alter the angle of the seat, ended up with a britax renaissance as pressure foot forced seat flat, but i was never completely happy. Our c-max was a 2004 model and it was not isofix compatible.
Oh and after sales service from ford was truely terrible.
Now got a skoda octavia, very happy.
