holy shit... (I wish)
I have had a bowel movement in weeks and today my bowel decided it needed one.
I am in so much pain, shaking, sweating, literally feel as if im on the edge of passing out. I'm having an epsom salt soak while chugging apple juice... Does anyone have any quick fixes?

Not sure if it'll work for you but orange juice always makes me go but I have to drink a whole carton to get it going.
I would go and see your gp though or try phoning them and get some laxatives because there's no sense in having to suffer and if you keep straining you'll end up doing some damage!

Parent19876 · 11/03/2019 13:53

I (tmi...) ended up manually extracting it.. definitely one of my lowest points thus far, but am now eating prunes like they're going out of style. I hope this never happens again haha

Lactose daily.

AntiHop · 11/03/2019 14:07

Pessary is the best way to get it our quickly. Talk to your midwife, you might be able to get an enema.

Shefliesonherownwings · 11/03/2019 14:57

I just went to the chemist to get something and got some lactulose. Pharmacist said this is good to take every day to keep you regular. I feel you pain, I have had some, ahem bleeding and soreness today, because of the constipation. It is no fun :(

FrancesV83 · 11/03/2019 15:08

OP I feel your pain! Orange juice always helped me and museli mixed with bran and just keeping as hydrated as possible.

GabbyGal · 11/03/2019 17:34

Keep eating the prunes, they really do help. And if they’re the tinned prunes in juice (rather than syrup) drink the juice as well.

stayhomeclub · 11/03/2019 17:37

Not a quick fix but I take dulcosoft regularly or I suffer with this awfully

TealandAbs · 11/03/2019 17:42

I had this during my second pregnancy. It wasn't funny at all. I had haemorrhoids for ages. Ouch!

Definitely try orange juice and weetabix with added sugar. Eat plenty of salad and drink lots of water.

happyhillock · 11/03/2019 17:50

Orange juice, weetabix and beans alway's helped me

GinUnicorn · 11/03/2019 17:56

I had the same it was hell. Prunes and prune juice - I hate prunes but they were worth it!

AnnaMC214 · 11/03/2019 18:10

I second the prune juice recommendation! It naturally contains sorbitol and works wonders. I drank lots to start with and now have it every other day to keep things in check.

ALannisterInDebt · 11/03/2019 18:42

Out of desperation I purchased an enema (like these in picture) and used just once....after that I never allowed myself to get that constipated again.

Prunes, prune juice, lots of water, redbush tea, dried apricots, apples. Good luck!

Just spoke to my chrons consultant about this this very evening (constipation was causing me to bleed: sorry for TMI but you def have my sympathies)

Safe in pregnancy: fybogel (use 2 sachets, will take a day to work)
Or lactalose

Movicol is brilliant, as is milk of magnesia (a good mouthful). I've read on various forums that these were fine in pregnancy but my particular consultant said she wasn't sure enough to give me the nod (maybe ask your doc)

HarryPottersSecretSister · 11/03/2019 18:52

I took 2 fybogel, a pint of orange juice with one black coffee 🙈 and it got things moving.

It's awful, I really hope it improves for you soon

Samind · 11/03/2019 18:53

Raspberry leaf tea. It's horrible warm but nice cold. Make a jug of it and out in fridge. Always worked for my stubborn bowels

HarryPottersSecretSister · 11/03/2019 18:53

Eat Alpen every morning

PeanutButterIsOneWord · 11/03/2019 19:03

This is me rn. I've been prescribed iron. And I've been taking lactulose with it. It's not working!! I'm having Prunes every morning and aiming for my food to be mostly fruit Veg and wholemeal. That's for the top end, I've also got suppositories that help with blockages at the other end.

Namechangemum100 · 11/03/2019 19:12

Movicol, I had horrendous constipation in both of my pregnancies and this is the only thing that made it manageable.

It has two different doses, and both should help you. The first is for fecal impactment, you basically take a whole load of it to clear you out. After that you can take small doses daily to keep things soft!

Based on my experience(and depending on how far you have to go), please take your constipation seriously. I didn't and ended up with the WORST piles that had to be lanced....THREE TIMES! Was fucking horrendous!

Good luck mama!

RosiePosies · 11/03/2019 20:11

Prune juice and lactulose, and I find a lot of bread makes me worse (which is heartbreaking). Even when you feel better don't stop taking them!!!

Parent19876 · 11/03/2019 20:35

Thanks everyone for the advice!
It truly is horrendous!
I'm going to the GP tomorrow and will hopefully get some lactulose.
I tried a sachet of fybogel, which made me instantly sick, so that was a no go...
Haven't been hungry at all lately (except for crackers) as nothing nutritious stays down. I never thought I'd say that I miss salad.
Do you know if we're allowed to take fiber supplements? Also looking into probiotics.
Literally I'm willing to do anything to not let it get to this point again, and I'm sure it'll only get worse as baby gets bigger haha.
