Ask for a sweep ?

I have my 38 week midwife appointment today, first baby.
Can I ask for a sweep ? Is she likely to say yes ?

I am SO uncomfortable, baby has been engaged & VERY low for weeks.
Movements are now painful & sometimes make me jump & shout when they take me by surprise.

I want her out 😑

You can ask, but unless there is a medical reason you are very unlikely to be given a sweep.

My midwifes policy is not until 40 weeks at the earliest and they will usually make you wait till 41 weeks.

I know it’s really uncomfortable (I am 38 +2) but honestly, wait it out. It is much better for your body to go into labour when it’s ready rather than being forced in to it!

I'm 40+6 today and have a MW appointment booked for later on. I know it varies between trusts but here they don't like to intervene until 41 weeks. That being said because this is my second DC I have been allowed to have 2 so far because the conditions with my cervix were 'favourable'. It hasn't worked though, I'm still sat here feeling very uncomfortable and a bit pee'd off!!

You can ask but here they won’t give them til due date unless there’s a medical reason to try sooner. No guarantees they work any way. I’m 39+4 and I’m going to ask tomorrow at my appointment as had a growth scan and apparently a huge baby but I’m not hopeful as in the hospital they didn’t seem overly concerned.

Like others have said, you can ask but the likely answer will be no. First babies they don’t seem to like to interfere before 40 weeks and even then I was told that I had to wait a whole extra week by the midwife that I actually saw (who wasn’t the one who said “I’ll book you in for a sweep at 40 weeks”). I was incredibly annoyed but in all likelihood with a first baby a sweep at 38 weeks is likely to do bugger all but get your hopes up.

Thanks everyone.

I didn't ask my midwife in the end, I have a consultant appointment next Tuesday 19th when I will be 39+2 to "talk" about induction, so going to ask her but if not at least I'll be booked in for induction 😊.
I have a heart condition (only mild) but have to have an epidural & only allowed to push for an hour ! So I expressed my concerns about being left overdue & baby gets too big .... I do not want a c section.
So fingers crossed 🤞🏼 I can get a sweep or induced to avoid going over due 😊
