I am 33 weeks pg, and have been wearing elle mcpherson maternity bras - the lacy ones - but do not think they have enough support. Is anyone able to recommend a more supportive maternity/nursing bra? and if it looked pretty too, that would be a bonus -

thanks x

i really like the royce ones. preferred them over the emma, or was it mary jane? some such name anyways! however dc3 is now four, and there is a lot more variety available now. so hopefully someon e else will come along.
the largest bra i ever bought was a 34G from royce. fantastic

Is it dumb to ask how you knew what size nursing bras to buy ? Do you just get your current size or do you guess a bigger size and hope for thr best?

Try Bravissimo - you can get them on-line but I went in and got measured and came out with 3 great bras, they are so comfy - unlike the Mothercare and M&S ones I'd bought before (I'm only in the early weeks though so they are not nursing ones).

Jollybaby - I was a 32E pre pregnancy and when I bought my bras at 8 weeks, I'd moved to a 34G. They gave me lots of advice e.g. you can wear underwired but you have to be careful where the wire at the sides actually sits, also you should wear it on the tightest hook to start so that you'll get some wear out of it.

Hope that helps

I liked my Bravado bras.

They aren't a particular size, as in 34B or £8DD, but come in three sizes (I think) and are stretchy a bit like a sports bra, so they adapt in size. I wore mine at the end of my pregnancy, then throughout bfing. I only gave them up recently, as I was missing "normal" bras. I'm actually still bfing ds (3.7), but only once a day, so I went back to underwired bras.

it's not a guess, more a guesstimate.
you will go up one size in the back, and at least one size in the cup during pregnancy. before baby moved down ready for birth, iwent up a further size in the back, so upt to 36 from 32. most people may not have, but my tight bra was giving me awful backache and i just needed to be comfy, so bought one that i basically only wore for a month. roughly 33 weeks pregnancy till 37ish.

went up two sizes in the cup postnattally. infact i sent my poor dfather to john lewis with instructions to get 34H as g was too samll. they settle down by about sixish weeks so then you can get measured yourself for one.

Being quite large in the norks dept I have had loads of trouble myself finding a comfy and supportive bra, al I can say is BRAVISSIMO

LoveAngel · 10/07/2007 07:43

I went from 34B pre-pregnancy to 38DD by the end of pregnancy, and 38E when BF-ing (!!). I also went for the sports bra option from about 6 months into my pregnancy, as I just wanted comfort, then chose Mothercare nursing bras for cheapness (they were actually very stretchy and comfy, although not the most stylish in the world!).

Cylonbabe - I?m with you on the backache ? I had to wear a strapless last week in my old size (bad girl) and had to take it off in the loos as I was in so much pain. Really think I?m creeping nearer to a 36 now too. My sister?s back size never went down after her 1st pg (but boy did the cup size )

Loveangel ? maybe it?s just me but I found the two bras I bought from Mothercare incredibly itchy even after a few washes.

Bravado are brilliant for the first few weeks after giving birth as you can sleep in them as well so you don't drown in milk, they are supportive and they accomodate all those size changes.Don't know what I would do without mine[I'm 30F and was 34H in first week after baby-still fitted].

ow82 · 11/07/2007 09:54

ballet ones are fab I found.

LittleMissLate · 11/07/2007 10:06

My favourite is a Royce bra (36G) I got from John Lewis - fitter was helpful and it is very well fitting and comfortable. Not sure on the style name but it was the only one they had in my size!

LittleMissLate · 11/07/2007 10:08

Oh and for sleeping I would recommend the Carriwell nursing bra - its the sort you pull on over your head with a racer back - I bought it on line - just try googling it.
