So I rang my GP and told them I was pregnant.. they booked me in with the midwife for next Wednesday ill be 7+3, today I get my 'notes' in the post and a letter saying I have a app at the hospital 'community booking Antenatal clinic? And ill be 9+2.. so if this letter is my booking in app what the hell am I going to on Wednesday at the GP surgery 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

It also says thank you for choosing to receive your care at 'xyz hospitals' does this mean all of my app are going to be at the hospital 🧐

In my area they now split the booking in appointment into two. Apparently it’s so they don’t overload us with too much info.
I asked for both mine in one as it’s 2nd pregnancy and a waste of time.

For example now they give you the booklets about the Down syndrome testing and Edwards at the 1st appointment and you have to have chosen if you want it by the 2nd appt. also they take your bloods here in your 2nd.

Seems silly really as just a waste of time!

@Perty01234 oh great! Defo wont be doing that then, my 2 year old would hate me 😂

Seems like everywhere is different. I had to fill in a form at my surgery, which asked me where I've chosen to give birth (no idea! I was 5 weeks when I booked it) and the receptionist booked me in for 8 weeks. I got an information pack in the post this week which included a few leaflets about the screening tests and I need to tell the midwife if I want them when I see her. It also said my notes will be online and I'll need to download the app. Think my appointment is 90 minutes, so there's a lot to do, maybe yours is split like the pp suggested.

Jackshouse · 09/03/2019 16:46

90 mins seems a long time! I am
High risk this time and had to discuss my previous birth to some extent and mine was still less than an hour.

HJWT · 09/03/2019 17:03

@VenusStarr 90 mins! Thats ridiculous 🤨 maybe thats just a 'make sure you have at least 90 mins' for the app? I remember with DD it was maybe 20 mins?

@Jackshouse I think ill be the same in some way with gestational diabetes and a bad PPH last time don't think ill be getting a water birth 😁

Mine was just over 60 minutes, and I managed to save myself 20 minutes of being sat there while she called to arrange the dating scan!

VenusStarr · 09/03/2019 18:08

I did think it seemed excessive @HJWT, the receptionist must've said it about 4 times!

Jackshouse · 09/03/2019 18:14

HJWT don’t be so sure - try and push for it. I met with an advanced midwife practitioner and midwife advaocate today and they said they would happily let me in the pool despite being too old, too fat and a VBAC.

Booking in split into two in my area this time aswell. The first appt was with a maternity support worker, she advised 90 mins but I was there 15 mins if that. She took blood pressure and blood, weighed me and advised me of the next appt and scan date. At the second appt I saw my midwife, everything was computerised, she checked my blood results and went through the usual medical history, mental health questions, domestic violence etc and didn't take any longer than 40 mins.

My booking in app took place all in 1 go at the local children’s centre. I was told over the phone it would take 2 hours which I was shocked about! It did take around 90mins but that was purely because I have moved areas since having my other 3 dc’s so we had to load ALL their details into the system as they couldn’t get hold of their notes! I’ve now had my second mw appointment and I still haven’t had to choose where I have mine, except to say that as I’m under consultant I’ve been told I HAVE to have this 1 in hospital for medical reasons, if not I would have much more choice.
As for tests etc, my gp gave me all the details for those and I had to decide at my booking in app and then the mw booked me in to have my scan and the test at 12weeks.
