Just curious really. This is my first pregnancy and I'm 9 weeks, I'm about 5 foot and roughly a size 12, feeling a bit bloated and possibly gained some weight already.

I'm going to a wedding at 20 weeks and it seems to vary massively between women as to whether that's early enough to be showing or not. I have heard shorter women tend to show earlier as the baby has less space and has to grow outwards, and I remember that being true of my mum (same height as me) when she was pregnant with my sister, but that was her second pregnancy.

I know it's not an exact science but what do we think? Am I likely to be showing at 20 weeks or not? Thanks Smile

I’m 5”4 with a short torso and was definitely showing by 20 weeks. Nevertheless, I was able to hide it quite well at that point. My belly started to get a little bigger around 8 weeks.

Im a tall one at 5ft 8. I was about a size 10-12 first time round and the bump had made an appearance around 20-21 weeks. It was only a slight one though.
This time round I'm more size 12-14 and at 10 weeks I have to wear size 16 and look about 4+ months gone

Ovacado23 · 07/03/2019 13:48

Impossible to say really, i was 20 weeks with my second and you could only just start to see (im 5"2 and was about a 10-12) are you wondering because you are a bridesmaid and you have to fit into a specific dress? Or are you not telling anyone yet and you want to keep people from guessing? IMO id buy a really pretty maternity dress (Asos and HM have some lovely maternity things) that you could wear a few times during your pg ? Or if you dont want to spend a lot you could scout ebay for an occasion maternity dress (or literally one size bigger). Something gathered round the middle off the shoulder and lower in the hem at the back than in the front should disguise a secret/not ready to tell bump ♡♡ hope you are feeling ok in your self and all the best ;) Flowers

I didnt show until i was about 26 weeks but im 5'8, i had a tiny bump by around 24 but i just kind of looked fat 😂 i was a size 10 and i fot into my own clothes for most of my pregnancy i was disgusted 😂

ItProtectsMyHead · 07/03/2019 13:59

@Ovacado23 not a bridesmaid, more concerned that if I'm showing properly then it'll be harder to sort of 'blend in' (I won't know many people and I struggle with big social situations like weddings) but if I'm not really bumpy people will just think I'm fat Grin really there's no pleasing me! I have actually already bought a really cute maternity dress from ASOS, my logic being if it's not needed for the wedding then I can wear it later in the pregnancy

I'm 5'3 and was showing by 20 weeks, but only a small amount and in non-maternity dresses you could barely tell. It was only things like jeans or skirts that I had to wear maternity versions, and that seemed to make the bump more visible.

Capybaras · 07/03/2019 14:08

I'm 22 weeks and only showing if I wear something fitting (such as a body on dress etc.) if I wear jeans/t-shirt/jumper you can't really tell and I think even in body on people may just think I'm fat! I am 5ft11 though and a 14 - friends who are shorter (more 5ft5ish seemed to have shown earlier so potentially the space in your torso has something to do with it!

TerriB1984 · 07/03/2019 14:31

I was definitely showing by 20 weeks in both my pregnancies (I’m
not even 20 weeks yet in my 2nd one!). Absolutely no hiding it Grin. I’m 5’4 and a size 12 pre pregnancy but I just seem to pop out very early for some reason.

Triskaidekaphilia · 07/03/2019 14:31

I'm 20 weeks and size 12 and I think I'm still at the 'fat or pregnant?' stage, but then I'm 5'7". People who know me well say I'm really showing as I had quite a small waist before, people who don't know me might not notice. Think if I wanted to hide it I could, but I think if you have a nice fitted maternity dress it'll show off your bump nicely, especially as you're 5' :)

5ft 4 size 8 first pregnancy and didn’t definetly show until around the 28 week mark... just looked very bloated until then!
This pregnancy however I had an obvious bump by 18 weeks!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/03/2019 14:41

I was a right bloater up to week 10 - it was fluid and gas.

Weeks 10-24 hardly showed.

Have really popped out now I’m at week 25.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/03/2019 14:42

Ps: this is my third pregnancy - the other two followed a similar path but I’ve popped out latest with this one. The others would have been around week 20.

purplemama1990 · 07/03/2019 15:08

I'm 21 weeks and I've been showing for a good few weeks now, more so if I'm wearing something fitted. You could probably get away with it if you chose a loose fitting dress?

HavelockVetinari · 07/03/2019 15:11

I'm 5'7" and a size 8, and very sporty. I didn't have a noticeable bump in clothes till 28 weeks.
