Not sure on dates - what if booking appointment is quite late?

So a bit of a long winded one but I'm basically not sure how many weeks I am. First midwife appointment is booked for 27th when I will be a minimum of 8 weeks.

However my last period was so light and kept stopping and starting over the course of five days (with two of the days only having blood when I wiped in the evening then disappeared again). Usually my periods are really heavy (as in super tampon needing changing every 2hrs). Plus the clear blue digital came up as 3+ over a week before my next period should have been due.

So I think I may have been pregnant when I had the 'period'. Anyone else have this? I'm assuming if midwife thinks I'm further on she can fast track me for scan if needed?

Is there any possibility you could get a private scan? A lot won't scan until you're 6 weeks, but if you explain the situation they might be more flexible.
That way, you wouldn't be waiting until the end of the month for an appointment with the midwife? They won't scan at that appointment so you'll still be none the wiser and potentially miss screening deadlines?

HeartvsHead · 07/03/2019 15:12

Yeah that's the bit I'm concerned about. If the midwife thinks I'm further along do you think they can fast track the scan referal?

I might look into a private scan. Partly for peace of mind. Plus I think family and friends will guess a lot quicker this time round so would be nice to know things are ok before having to share news!

A friend of mine didn't find out till late she was pregnant. She didn't get fast tracked and had to wait over 3 weeks for a scan. She paid for one privately in the end to confirm how far she was

May depend on health trust but I wouldn't guarantee they will fast track you....

Thegirlwithnousername · 07/03/2019 15:35

I had no idea on my dates and wasn't fast tracked and had to wait for my 12 week scan which turned out to be 15 weeks. I would go private if I was you.

If you're worried about screenings, then you can still receive a blood test for downs screening up until 20 weeks. Then the others can be picked up via scans. I was booked in for a scan quite late, then the sonographer dated me a few days further ahead, putting me over the point where the screening could be done via scan. Bit frustrating but no drama. Although having had private scans myself, the reassurance they bring is good!

Just had a quick look and there are a couple of places with in an hour of me that do them for around £90.

Says you can go any time from 6 weeks so might book for next Fri as on shortest dates will be 6 weeks though I think I'll be nearer 8/9 weeks and going off my last proper period I technically would be almost 11 weeks.

Did you go for a scan?

HeartvsHead · 11/03/2019 19:03

Excellent, Come back and update us! I have been checking back daily.

HeartvsHead · 11/03/2019 19:37

@thegirlwithnousername oh bless you.

I figured Fri onwards would be my best bet as definately a minimum of 6 weeks by then. From looking at things I think I'm nearer 8 but will see. No point seeing absolutely nothing for my £90!

Yeah sounds like a good idea.
Fingers crossed for Friday.

HeartvsHead · 15/03/2019 19:07

So the scan puts me at 6+4 And on LMP I'm 6+1 So must have ovulated straight after before starting the opks or the opks missed the surge. I have long cycles so should technically ovulate a lot later in cycle than I must have.

Anyway nice strong heartbeat seen so all good and fingers crossed all goes as planned from here!!
