I've had massive headaches for two days straight. I've tried taking a paracetamol without any change. I drink at least three 64oz water bottles a day. Is there anything else i can do to make this horrible thing go away? It feels like my head is in a vice and it seems like every little thing makes it worse :(

Cold flannel on your head seems to help me along with a sleep in a dark room. Also buy some lavender balm and rub this on your temples, ear lobes and wrists. It works for me. Then if it gets too unbearable I have some paracetamol x

The horrific headaches and migraines I had in pregnancies were some of the worst I’ve ever had, and I’ve been a lifelong sufferer. Cool temperature, showers or a massage, lying down in a dark room and ultimately codeine were what I resorted to.

Flowers and I hope this phases passes quickly for you.

Thank you ladies. I unearthed some lavender oil and am about to go lay in a dark room with a flannel. Fingers crossed!

You must get your blood pressure checked and your urine tested. Speak to your midwife. Severe headache can be a sign of pre- eclampsia.

Do they still make 4head? I used that when I was pregnant.

SlangBack · 06/03/2019 20:21

I used the 4head stick, they still sell it.

I still use it.

Sugamoma1 · 06/03/2019 20:23

I use 4head stick and find it really helps. If I have a really bad one then I take solpadeine which is the only thing that gets rid of it. Hope you feel better soon x

I had a awful headache so I tried something I read and it helped me. It's an ice pack on the back of your neck and feet in hot water (I couldn't be bothered with the water so I sandwiched my feet in two hot water bottles) and it really worked with me. Just sit on the sofa and do it. Feet have to be on the floor apparently. Worth a try!xx

How many weeks are you? As pp mentioned if over 20 weeks it's worth having BP checked. A terrible headache that didn't respond to painkillers was the first symptom of pre-eclampsia for me.

I did also suffer from hormonal headaches in pregnancy and found that paracetamol taken with a can of full fat coke, 4head and a warm wheat bag in the back of my neck took the edge off.

I hope you feel better soon.

Aldi's paracetamol with caffeine is the only paracetamol that works for me during pregnancy. During my last pregnancy I had a migraine at 38 weeks and had to phone the midwife as nothing would get rid of it. She said as a last resort to take solphadeine which did get rid of it but I'd check with your midwife first as they'll need to check your blood pressure and urine to rule out anything else first. Otherwise sleep, coke, fresh air x

I’ve found I get a headache if I go too long without eating, even when I don’t feel hungry I can feel it creeping on. Maybe try to keep your blood sugar up by grazing on snacks and eating main meals at regular times?

Parent19876 · 07/03/2019 10:21

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies.
I'm only thirteen and a half weeks, so don't think it could be preeclampsia this earlier.
Woke up with another blinding headache (or same one, not sure) so will try the hot cold water trick and 4head.
I constantly graze all day so i don't think it's that. Who knows...

Definitely mention to midwife for severe headaches. I avoid taking paracetamol as best I can, I use 4head and also white tiger balm. I always have a snickers bar and oat bar/flapjacks on me too - I find eating carbs helps when a headache comes on.
