Has anyone had an early scan as early as 7 weeks? Doctor told me they may not be able to pick up a heartbeat as it's so early? Can anyone share their views and experiences, thanks 😘

I had one at 6. They saw the yolk sac and said it looked healthy, but then booked another one 2 weeks later to check. At 7 weeks I’d have thought you’d see something- not sure about a heartbeat yet though.
(I had bleeding)

I had mine at 8 and they found the heartbeat straight away. The place I went said they can do it from 7 weeks.

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/03/2019 17:00

I had an internal scan at 7+4 and saw a heartbeat. Good luck!

Meganlouise90 · 04/03/2019 17:22

It will 100% be an internal scan because I'll only be 7 weeks by then, I've been having some bleeding so been referred for an early scan. I'm excited but scared at the same time. Hope little one is okay. My GP told me to go for scan with full bladder, I didn't think they needed full bladder for internal scan?xx

I saw a heartbeat at 7w. Abdominal scan.

mynameiscalypso · 04/03/2019 17:24

I had an abdominal scan at 6 weeks and saw a heartbeat but I think NHS scans are always TV at an early stage.

Meganlouise90 · 04/03/2019 17:24

I hope I can see one. Is it true the chances of miscarriage after you've seen a heartbeat on a early scan is low? Xx

Go with full bladder as they'll try abdominal in first instance. You can always empty it for internal if needed.

53rdWay · 04/03/2019 17:28

Chances of miscarriage go down if you see a heartbeat. Not down all the way to zero but definitely odds are better.

They might start with abdominal scan and then only switch to internal scan if that’s not showing them enough. I’ve had abdominal scans at 6w and 7w that showed a heartbeat so they didn’t need to switch to internal there.

miamiibiza · 04/03/2019 17:37

I had a scan last week - I was 6w and 2d. They saw a heartbeat ❤️

Meganlouise90 · 04/03/2019 18:03

Can I ask why you ladies all had early scans? Was any of it due to bleeding? Xxx

I had an early scan on Saturday at just six weeks to rule out ectopic (I had spotting and one sided pain) and there was a definite heartbeat, good luck Flowers

45andahalf · 04/03/2019 18:16

I had one at 6 weeks to rule out an ectopic. No heartbeat, just a pole/egg sac, I think. Then another at 8 weeks, and there was a heartbeat then.

I had an early scan due to abdominal cramps. They saw the heartbeat at 5w and 5d

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/03/2019 18:36

Early scan to be discharged from our fertility clinic with a viable pregnancy. I did have brown spotting at 5, 7 and 9 weeks though. DS is now almost 15m old.

Meganlouise90 · 04/03/2019 18:43

Mines due too bleeding, first of all it started browny pink now it's more of a red colour but it's on and off and mainly when I wipe after the toilet. Xx

I had an early scan at 6 weeks 4 days due to spotting and saw a heartbeat, that was an internal scan.

Cookit · 04/03/2019 19:40

6 weeks saw heartbeat.

BillyAndTheSillies · 04/03/2019 20:42

Had one today, measurements dated me at 7+4.
It was abdominal and a heartbeat was seen. Definitely not as clear as a vaginal one would have been but it was private so no option.

Meganlouise90 · 04/03/2019 20:53

Not sure if they'll give me internal or external one I just hope all is alright. When they say pregnancy makes you feel like dog shit they ain't wrong, I've never been so uncomfortable with wind in my life 😣 xx

I had an early scan, measuring 6w, bang on my dates and there was a heartbeat. There's not a lot to see features wise - mostly just a fuzzy pellet shape, but for reassurance it definitely helped me. Mine was transabdominal, but make sure your bladder is full. TV isn't too bad though, best to wear a dress or skirt just in case it's needed.

Rememberallball · 06/03/2019 01:47

@Meganlouise90, I had a scan at 6+6 because this is an IVF pregnancy and that was what was requested by my fertility consultant. They did the scan trans abdominal and were able to identify both gestational sacks, foetal poles and 2 heartbeats so confirmed we are expecting fraternal twins and dated exactly in line with my treatment.

I have also had 2 small episodes of bleeding a couple of weeks ago and, after the second one, I realised that both were associated with me being constipated and straining to open my bowels. As a result I’ve increased the amount of water I’m drinking and added more acidic fresh fruit (pineapple, orange and grapes) into my diet; have also been having prunes at breakfast time and a glass of orange juice. As a result I’m much less constipated and had no more bleeding!!

I had similar symptoms to you OP with both of my pregnancies and had scans at 6wks with DD1 and 7wks with DD2 saw a heartbeat with DD1 and just a egg sack with Dd2 I was terrified at the time because I'd had red blood when id wiped but both babies were fine and I went back a week later with DD2 and they found her heartbeat. I have two happy healthy daughters. I remember being so scared in those first couple of months though there's no fear like it! Hope your outcome is good! I'll cross my fingers for you

cloudymelonade · 06/03/2019 23:53

I had an abdominal scan at 7w as I was so anxious, no bleeding or anything. Saw a heartbeat straight away :) now 32 weeks!
